“You want to help me?” My voice tremors with anger. “Then find Cade and kill him, Bexley.” Silent tears roll down my cheeks. “That’s all I need from you.”
His eyes flash with pain. “Little mou—"
“Don’t. Don’tevercall me that again.”
“Run, little mouse.Run before the big bad wolf catches up with you.”
My eyes shutter as I inhale a ragged breath.
“Mia?” Bexley squeezes my hand.
“You have to find him,” I cry, sobbing, unable to fight the swell of emotion dragging me under.
“Shh, Mia. I’m here, I’m right here.” He shifts closer, leaning down to kiss my knuckles.
“He has to pay.” I sob harder. “He has to pay.”
“He will, I promise.”
Just then, the door opens and Channing peers inside. Our eyes lock and he frowns. “Sorry, I can—"
“No.” I sniffle. “It’s okay, you can come in.”
He slips inside, closing the door behind him. “I just wanted to see if you guys needed anything.”
“I’m good, man, thanks.” Bexley gives him a small nod, and the two of them share a long look.
“How are you feeling?” he asks me.
“Like all of this is a dream and I’ll wake up any second. But then I remember it’s real life, and my heart breaks all over again.”
“Shit, Mia, I—"
“Don’t. It isn’t your fault.” There’s only one person to blame here.

Well, CadeandQuinctus.
“Any news?” Bexley asks Channing, and he shakes his head as he pulls over a chair and sits down.
“It’s a fucking mess. Q are running scared. Ashton is… well, you saw how he was, and—"
“Did Ashton know?”
“He says he didn’t.”
I scoff at that, my ribs smarting. “Of course he says he didn’t, but he’s Cade’s best friend. If anyone knew, it was him. Have Quinctus tried to make him talk?”
“They’ve talked to him.”
“Talked to him?” Disbelief coats my words. “Maybe they need to try harder. Be more persuasive. I’m sure they have the ways and means—"
“Mia, this isn’t helping.”
