"Oh my God," Mia whimpers as I pull out the small black velvet box that's been burning a hole in my jacket pocket since I dropped it in there earlier.

"The first moment I saw you here, I knew you were the one for me. Your beauty, your innocence, your zest for life blew me away… and despite the hell we've lived through these past few months, none of that has changed. I'm in awe of your strength, of your ability to forgive, your kindness, your pure heart."

Tears pool in her eyes and her bottom lip begins to tremble as she stares down at me, my outstretched hand shaking with nerves.

I know this is soon, that it's utterly crazy. We've basically just started college and got the rest of our lives to worry about marriage and commitment, but there is no doubt that Mia is it for me.

She stole my heart that night down here by the lake, and I know that no matter what happens, she's never going to give it back.

"You're mine, Mia. You've always been mine, and it's time to make it official. Will you marry me?"

"Yes," she cries, dropping to her knees before me, her tears finally spilling over. "Yes, Bexley."

She falls into me, knocking the ring box from my hand as she wraps her arms around my shoulders, holding me tight and sobbing into my shoulder.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask after a few seconds when her tears don't subside.

With my fingers twisted in her hair, I gently pull her away from the crook of my neck and look into her eyes.

She drags in a shaky breath and shakes her head gently. "T-there were so many times that I didn't think you'd want me anymore."

"Baby," I breathe, cupping her face in my hands and wiping her tears from her cheeks. "Never. I see you, baby. I see what's in here." I drop one hand to cover her heart, her ruined brand, the evidence of the nightmare we've endured together. "Our past is our past. I want to focus on our future."

She sniffles and nods, the beginnings of a smile twitching at her lips. "Me too. I want us, Bex. Just us."

Leaning forward, I brush my lips over hers. She eagerly returns my kiss, and in only seconds I'm drowning in her. For the first time since our very first kiss, when we had no idea who each other were, it's just us. We're not hiding, not running, not keeping secrets.

I lean her back and she falls onto her ass, and with my hand holding the back of her head, I lay her down, deepening our kiss as I settle between her thighs.

"B-Bex," she forces out through her heaving breaths when I release her lips in favor of her neck.

"Yeah, baby?"

She holds up the forgotten jewelry box. "Did you want to give me this?"

"You make me lose my mind, Mia Thompson." I laugh as I take it from her and open the lid.

She gasps when she takes in the simple princess cut diamond with a slim platinum band. "Bex, it's beautiful."

"Just like its owner."

Her tears return as I pull the ring from its velvet cushion and lift her hand from where it was resting on my thigh.

We're both silent as I slide it up her finger. My heart beats wildly in my chest as I stare at it in place.

This is it.

Finally.

"Mia Easton has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"

"I think it's perfect." I fall over her once more, my palms planted on the ground beside her head. "But I should warn you…" Her eyes widen in curiosity. "The traditions might be done, but I fully intend on branding you, Mrs. Easton."

Her eyes hold mine, the hazel darkening as she takes in the seriousness in my stare. "I wouldn't expect it any other way."

"Fuck," I bark, dropping lower and claiming her lips.

A moan rumbles up her throat when I drop my hand down her body and slide it under her shirt. "Bexley."
