I can't cope with watching her drown, because it feels like I'm going down with her. I feel like I'm failing.

She’s clutching a towel to her chest, the blood once again pooling around the wound.

"Mia," I breathe, desperately wanting to fix all of this, to make everything right but knowing I can't.

Rushing over, I open one of the wipes and start cleaning her up again. No words are said between us as I place the bandage over her chest and smooth down the tape, but I feel her pain, her desperation.

"Where were you today?" she finally whispers when I lower my hand from her body.

"With Q. They assured me that they've got this Cade situation under control."

Phillip and Harrison looked me dead in the eyes and promised me that things were in order. Now all I can do is repeat that message and hope like fuck they're telling the truth.

"They've got him?"

"They didn't give me details."

"Well, security haven't left, so I assume they're lying."

"They want us all safe, Mia."

"Pfft." She rips her eyes from mine and looks toward the window. "I've never felt so unsafe. So weak… So vulnerable."

"I'm trying here, Mia. I'm trying to be everything you need."

"Then believe me when I tell you I see him," she erupts. "Ashton does, so why don't you?"

My chin drops at her outburst. "You've spoken to Ashton again?"

Her eyes hold mine, something akin to her old determination flashing through them as her jaw pops.

"Don't even think about lying to me," I warn.

"He came to talk to me earlier."

"Motherfuc—"

"He's on our side, Bexley."

My teeth grind at her words, my muscles burning with my need to go and find him and show him exactly how I feel about him going out of his way to talk to Mia behind my back.

"Bullshit, he's on Cade's."

"He's the only one who believes me, Bexley. The only one who doesn't make me feel like I'm losing my fucking mind."

Climbing from the bed, I begin pacing back and forth, tugging at my hair until it burns. "Of course he does. He's playing you. He's getting you on side so he can hand you over to Cade."

"No, he's not," she barks, scrambling from the bed and pulling a shirt on.

"So you actually trust him now? Ashton?” My heart cracks. “Fucking unbelievable."

"You don't trust me, Bex. I tell you what I see, what I feel, and you wave it off as me going crazy. Cade has been here." She throws her arm back, pointing to her bathroom. "He’s watching me, and none of you want to believe it."

"There’s no evidence," I say, beginning to feel like a broken record. "I want to believe you, I want to, baby. But how can I when you say he's been inside this house? A house that has security crawling all over it? And there's been no sign of him on the CCTV."

"Because I'm telling you he was here. Fuck the evidence, Bex. I am telling you.I'mevidence enough, no?"

We stare at each other, our chests heaving, her eyes pleading with me to just say I believe her, but the rational part of my brain screaming that it's just not true. He can't have been here.
