Sucking in a breath, I turn the corner.
My heart jumps into my throat when the first thing I see is Cade's hands on Mia, a gun down by his side.
"Oh look, here he is at last. My replacement."
I narrow my eyes on Cade as I take a step past Tim, Brandon, Alex and Ashton. There's something different in Cade's tone, but I can't put my finger on what it is.
My eyes meet Phillip’s before dropping to a body on the floor. Lincoln Kingsley. And Cade is the only one who's obviously packing.
"You shot your uncle?"
"Bex," Mia whimpers, her voice shaking with fear.
"It's okay, baby."
"Aw, you two always were too cute for me." Cade lifts his arm, pointing the barrel of his gun right at my head.
"Cade, please. No."
"Don't fucking move," he growls at her, his arms tightening around her waist. Keeping his eyes on me but his lips close to Mia's ear, he booms. "Everyone out. This is between me andlittle mouse."
"I don't fucking think so," I bark. "I'm not leaving you with her."
"Then she dies," he says, moving the gun to her temple.
Mia's eyes fill with tears as my heart begins to beat so wildly I can feel it in every inch of my body.
"Do as he says, please," she begs.
I hear footsteps behind me as people move, but I don't look back to see if they're doing as they're told or standing with me. I really fucking hope it's the latter.
"Bunch of fucking traitors," Cade spits, giving me my answer.
"You killed innocent people, Cade. You hurt people we care about. What did you expect?" My chin damn near hits the floor when I register Ashton's voice.
"I should burn this place to the ground with you all inside."
"Go on then," Tim taunts. "Light it up. Put an end to all of it."
"You'd love that, wouldn't you? Put an end to all the bullshit you've been forced to deal with thanks to your little prosapia."
"Leave her out of it,” Tim growls.
"That's it, pretend like you love her."
"I do fucking love her."
"She's sick, Davenport."
"Takes one to know one."
Cade's lips twist in frustration.
"Please, just do as he says."
"I'm not leaving you with him, Mia. It's not going to happen."
Quicker than I can comprehend, Cade moves his arm, and the bang of a gunshot vibrates through me before Phillip cries out in pain as he crumples to the ground.
