“I couldn’t miss my baby getting married!” Clare Saint said, grabbing Wendy and Oliver to hug. “I’m so excited that you’ll be living down the street from me. I promise not to come over uninvited.”

Charlie and Lila were there, too. “We should get married while we’re here,” Charlie said. “We came all this way.”

“You’re not getting off that easy,” Lila said, laughing.

“Do you still want to go through with it?” Oliver asked, grinning when Wendy admonished him for the surprise.

“We have to, with San Diego county represented. I can’t believe everyone came!”

“I hate hanging around the house on New Year’s Day,” Aunt Roberta said. “And Mike gave me money for the slot machines! We’ll head over there for the buffet and slots after you get hitched.”

After everyone got their hugs and well-wishes in, the ceremony began.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the officiate finally said. “You may kiss the bride.”

Cheers rang out as Oliver kissed his wife for the first time.

Their guests decided to walk across the street for the casino’s famous buffet dinner and some gambling.

“We’ll meet you in a minute,” Oliver called out.

“You know, it might be a good time for me to tell you that I’m a very private person, Oliver. I don’t like my business to be out there for everyone to see.”

He roared laughing. “Now’s a great time to tell me, Wendy, after I’ve spread our business all over the western United States for the past week. It’s too late for that. You know how they say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? Well, not this time. This time everyone is going to know our story.”

Throwing her arms around him, she jumped up and down in little movements. Oliver picked her up and kissed her passionately while cars beeped on the main drag, and someone screamed, “Get a room!”

“Come on,” she said, grabbing his hand. “I’m ready to show you off. I feel lucky!”

“What’s there to show? I’m just a broken-down football player.”

“Yes, but you’re my football player. And I love you.”

“I love you, too, wife. Let’s go win some money.”

The End
