“True. But I don’t care about any of that,” she said. “I can’t even express how wonderful it will be to have you and our baby.”

Like a hand swiped his face, his expression completely changed. “We can’t leave her.”

“We’ll have a nanny.”

“A nanny? No way. I’ll go back on night shift and take care of the kid while you’re away.”

“Yeah, but you need to get some sleep.”

“When the baby comes, I’ll make the sacrifice.”

“I’m not sacrificing having you in my bed. We’ll figure it out. We’ll find someone you trust.”

It was amazing that they shared their fears and concerns, and after only five minutes of knowing he was going to be a father, he was already rearranging his life for the good of the kid.

“Wow. You’re really something.”

“You are, too,” he said, numb. “Where will she sleep?”

“We have all those rooms. One will be baby Chastain’s, next to her daddy’s man cave.”

“Aw, a nursery.”

“What if she’s a boy?” Katrina asked.

“I don’t care what we have,” Dave answered.

“Me either. I still can’t believe it,” Katrina said. “Are you ready to go home?”

“Yes, I’m ready.”

Grabbing her hand again, he picked up his pace to get to the car.

“I wish I were working from home this week,” she said. “I guess it’ll be okay. You’ll have time to settle in without my opinions.”

“I value your opinion. Right now, I don’t have any opinions. I’m a big pile of fluff.”

She laughed out loud. “I love you, Dave.”

“I wish I had something to offer,” he said, laughing. “You’re giving me a baby.”

“You’re fine,” she said. “If you have a question, we’ll talk.”

“We need to think about making room for everything.”

“What about converting that space above the garage into my office?” she asked. “I’d rather work at the kitchen counter than be that far away from you, but it might not work with a house full of kids.”

“You’re thinking ahead. We have that beautiful bunk room, too,” he said.

“It’ll be full of kids someday.”

“I can’t even imagine it. Oh boy!” he said, laughing. “There I am again, not able to look too far ahead. I’m like a zombie.”

“That’s okay. I’ve got enough plans for ten people.”

They reached the car, and he opened the door for her, watching her pull her legs in. She looked up at him staring at her.

“What?”
