“Go ahead,” Katrina said.

He rubbed his chin, thinking of the right words to say.

“You look like a Van Dyke painting of woman with child.”

Looking at each other and trying not to laugh out loud, they didn’t want to make fun because it wasn’t like Val to say anything sentimental.

“I’ll take that as a beautiful compliment,” Maggie said, kissing his cheek. “Thank you. And say hi to Aunt Elizabeth for us.”

“I will,” he said, closing the gate of his truck. “See you two cuties later.”

“Oh God, my aunt would blow a gasket if she heard him call us cuties,” Maggie said, pulling Katrina along.

“Wait!” Justin shouted, running from the barn.

“Yikes. Look at my man,” Maggie said.

“Yikes is right,” Katrina replied, laughing. “Is there no other word?”

Maggie snickered, waving to him.

“What is it, flesh of my flesh?” she called out.

“Do you two want to go into town for dinner later?”

“See, it’s hopeless, we both think about food constantly,” Maggie said, chuckling. “Kat?”

“Sure, if Dave wants to.”

“You’re not going to expect me to dance in this shape, are you?” Maggie asked, looking at her belly.

“Do you want to?” Justin asked, grinning at her. “Everything we do now includes a third person.”

“Ha! Yes, it does; he’s there, even in the bed,” Katrina added, unashamed.

“Poor kids!” Maggie cried.

“It’s just nature,” Justin said, taking the dog’s leash from her. “Come on, I’m ready to dance.”

“I might be in the mood to dance once I hear the music,” Maggie replied. “It’s hard not to move when Zydeco comes on.”

“I want to see Maggie dance,” Katrina said.

“You saw me dance on Twelfth Night,” Maggie replied, laughing. “It’s not all that.”

“Yes, it is. I might be jealous having Dave see you,” Katrina said, snickering.

Dave joined them. “I’ve seen it.”

“Dave saw Maggie dance before,” Justin said. “At the roadhouse.”

“I’ve seen you dance together. Get ready to get hot, babe,” Dave said, slapping his knee.

“Oh God, you’re a sick man,” Katrina said as he slid his arm around her waist.

“We don’t need to go out to dance. I got my grandpa’s Zydeco records in the cottage.”

“I forgot! Come on. I’ll put one on now.”
