“Under here, having a drink,” Katrina said, gesturing to the mound under the shawl.

“Where’s yours? Remember I need to see her, too.”

“Oh right! I forgot all about that. Here’s her majesty.”

Maggie sat down next to Katrina so she could see baby Tina.

“She’s so sweet!”

“Look at you,” Maggie exclaimed. “Just as serene as can be. The first time I tried nursing this kid, I was as clumsy as an ox.”

“You were not,” Justin said. “Stop putting yourself down.”

“I can’t wait to see him,” Maggie said. “Justin, turn around.”

“Ha! It’s not all that,” Katrina said, pulling up the fabric of the shawl.

“Aw, he’s so sweet! Look at those cheeks. And his red hair!”

Satiated, the baby had fallen asleep. Katrina pulled her top down and brought the baby out into the light of day again. “Here he is, King Chastain,” Katrina said, winking. “You can see him, Justin.”

They crooned over the baby, trading babies so Katrina could examine Tina.

Dave had already seen Tina, so he took Justin inside to see something he was working on, leaving the women alone.

“You look amazing. I have to do something about my weight,” Maggie said.

“Maggie, you look beautiful. I have a jiggly belly. No one tells you to expect these changes in your body.”

“My ass is as big as it was when I was pregnant.”

“They say to just keep nursing and the weight will come off. I’m counting on it. We can start taking the babies for walks.”

“You mean, pushing a stroller around?” Maggie asked, grimacing.

“Well, yeah. How else would you do it?”

“All I want to do right now is get on the back of a horse,” Maggie admitted.

“How much longer do you have to wait?”

“Longer than two weeks. The doctor said three but Justin is trying to control my life and he said he’ll move my horse back to his father’s place until the baby is six weeks old.”

“Aw, he loves you. Six weeks sounds about right,” Katrina said, commiserating. “When are you going back to work?”

“I never really stopped. I couldn’t do much for the first week after having a C-section but on day eight, I worked. What about you?”

“I’m going back Monday. I’ll work from home but I’m logging on. Dave said he wants to be the parent in charge so I might as well. I’m going to start pumping and freezing. Do you do that?”

“Oh, hell yes,” Maggie answered. “I’m getting a stash going. You see how Justin is; he can hardly stand to put her down or even give her to me to nurse. He’s madly in love. And it’s nice having him at the clinic next door because if I need a break, he’ll take over.”

“You have a routine,” Katrina said admiringly. “That’s what I want to do.”

“You will. Baby David will dictate what that is, so just listen to him.”

“Oh boy,” Katrina said, looking down at Maggie’s baby in her arms. Tina rooted around for milk on Katrina. “She wants to nurse.”

“My boobs are so big, I can nurse her while she’s in your arms,” Maggie said, digging for a baby blanket with which to cover up while Katrina laughed.
