“I’m fine with it,” he said. “There might be a lot of questions. You know how us backwoods folks are.”

“Ha! I’m fine with questions. I think everything should be out in the open. Then there is no weirdness.”

“Okay, if you say so,” he said, thinking,I’ve gotta live here so not everything needs to be out in the open, does it?

“You don’t sound so sure,” she said, snickering.

“Remember that me and the baby will be here long after you leave. It wouldn’t hurt to keep some of our personal stuff to ourselves.”

“Okay, I see what you mean. And things have a way of changing, too.”

“Countdown to Bridget,” he said. She could hear it in his voice that he was smiling, that he was feeling better about her.

“You mean birth?”

“No, your arrival,” he said.

“Ah! I wondered if you were happy I could get back to Cypress Cove.”

“Bridget, of course I’m happy. I’m thrilled. I’m just trying to fit into the role of friend.”

“I’m sorry, Luke. My roller coaster of emotions must be hell to deal with.”

“You’re okay,” he said reassuringly. “I just don’t want to put too much pressure on you. It seems like you have enough coming from the Navy.”

“Well, you can put a little pressure on me, okay?”

“Okay, only if you’re sure.”

“I’m sure,” she said.

“Are we going to sleep together?” he asked, thinkingyou want pressure? I’ll give you pressure.

She didn’t even have to think about that one. “Yes.”

Friday afternoon, during the ride from the airport to Cypress Cove, Bridget and Luke held hands. From time to time, she patted his with her other hand or he lifted hers to his lips to kiss. They arrived at his house and she didn’t waste any time dragging him into the bedroom.

“I’m stunned,” he said, letting her dominate.

“I’m crazy horny. It must be the pregnancy, but I’ve wanted to jump you since I saw you at the airport.”

“You can jump me all you want,” he replied.

A half hour later, they lay in bed, holding each other. “Are you okay it was a fast one?” he asked. “It’s like I haven’t seen you for a year.”

“It was great. I got what I came for,” she said, laughing out loud. “I came to come.”

He hugged her, kissing the top of her head. “I’m glad I did it for you.”

“You definitely did. We are compatible in bed,” she said. “That’s important.”

“We have a saying around these parts and the best way to explain it would be that what we have is a testosterone relationship.”

Laughing again, she nodded her head. “It is that for sure.”

“What do you need to be happy in a relationship?” he asked.
