“Yes, ma’am,” the guard said, closing and locking the door.

Out in the waiting area, Jack met up with Terry. “The guard is going to let you in but I’m warning you, best behavior buddy. Don’t try any conjugal bullshit tonight.”

“I’m not even thinking of that,” Terry said, running his hand over his head. “I’m too pissed off.”

“I’m headed back to Saint John’s Parish to night court to see if I can get a bail hearing for her. I hope you have ready money because I’m sure this will not be cheap if they grant bail.”

“Like how much?”

“It could be up to a million dollars, Terry.”

Bail was set at a half million and Terry had to come up with thirty thousand to get his wife out of jail.

Randy had been waiting to hear if Ashlie was going to be released so he could warn Adam. Since Randy didn’t go to the bail hearing, he heard the news secondhand from the bailiff.

“Judge Rudy told Jack Armstrong that she’s to stay out of Cypress Cove or her bail will be revoked and she’ll be arrested.”

“How much was her bail?” Randy asked.

“Half a million. The husband is a wealthy plastic surgeon and paid up so she’s probably on her way home now.”

It was late, after midnight, but Randy called Adam.

“I’m up. Baby girl is eating,” he said.

“Buddy, she got bail.”

“I can’t believe it,” Adam said, leaning back against the headboard.

“I know, I’m sorry. But the bailiff tells me she can’t even go into Cypress Cove without having her bail revoked.”

“What am I supposed to do? My family is arranging to have my shack turned into a fortress because of her.”

“Document it, Adam. It’s all fodder we can use during her trial. And unless the charges are dropped, it is going to go to trial.”

“Why would they drop the charges?” he cried.

“If Ashlie can prove she didn’t understand the limitations of the custody agreement with you, it’s possible the charges could be dropped.”

“Randy, we’ve confronted her with the facts from the beginning. You recorded our conversations with her. I’m not sure that is even something I have to worry about.”

“She claimed you told her to pick up Adelaide,” Randy said.

“I thought she told Dave Chastain that was a lie?”

“She admitted that, it’s true, but she can change her story whenever she wants, Adam, and she can claim you said it was okay to take the baby. Her freedom is at stake so you don’t know what she’ll say.”

Silence echoed over the connection for a moment.

“You still there, Adam?”

“I’m here. I just can’t believe it.”

“I wish there was something else you could do, but right now just be cautious.”

“Thanks, Randy.”

“I’ll be in touch when they announce her trial date,” Randy said before hanging up.
