Chapter 5

Rose contacted Vic, contrite and miserable.

“Will you forgive me?” she asked.

“For what? You needed downtime, and you took it. No problem, Rose.”

“Yeah, I’m ready to come back, if you’ll let me.”

“Do you need me to come get you?”

“No, I’ll bring my car. It’s full of my stuff.”

“So, you’re going to move in after all.”

“If the offer is still open,” she replied.

“It’s still open. I miss you. I have a hangover.”

“Oh, no! What did you drink?”

“No, a food hangover. I went to Spencer’s and loaded up.”

“Vic…”

“Yeah, I know. Sorry.”

“It’s okay. I’ll see you soon. I actually have something I want to talk to you about.”

“Okay. I’ll be here, ready to listen.”

Soon, she was at the door with her bags. Vic kissed her, genuinely glad to see her.

“I was preparing to resume my single behavior life.”

“You’ve been watching too much Sex in the City again.”

“Ha! You’re right, Rosie. Oops, I know you don’t like it when I call you Rosie.”

“It’s fine. It’s your name for me. I always knew when John forgot my name because he’d call me honey or sweetheart.”

Vic laughed. “He might have been calling you those names because they were endearments.”

“I doubt it. I’ll stash this stuff back in the bedroom. I have a new interest in reading through Emily’s letters.”

“Why’s that?”

“I’ll tell you when I get settled. What did you have for dinner?”

“Lunchmeat and cheese,” he said. “And an orange.”

“Oh, bullcrap, you didn’t eat an orange.”

“No, I didn’t. Sorry.” It amused Vic that he couldn’t put anything over on Rose.

“I’m going to hop in the shower and put my jammies on, and then I’ll be right out. You go now, give me some privacy.”

“Oh. I want to watch,” he said, teasing.
