“I still want to get married, though,” he said.

“Oh, okay,” she teasingly moaned. “If that’s what you really want, I guess I have to marry you.”

“That makes me the happiest guy on earth.” He got up from the bed. “I’m going to close things down for the night.”

“Are the boys home?”

“They’re out tonight,” Chris said, grinning down at her. “Ben’s staying with Kirk and Joel’s at his girlfriend’s.” He moved his eyebrows up and down playfully.

“What do you think?” Annie asked, reaching out with a fingertip, running it along his arm. “Our period of abstinence is up tonight.”

“I’ll take Miss Emily to her crib if you’re done with her.”

“Love you, Annie.”

“And I love you, Chris. And I’ll marry you, too.”

Kneeling down with the baby in his arm, he took Annie’s hand and kissed it. “That makes me so happy! Thank you. We’ll do it as soon as you’re ready.”

“I’m ready now. Thank you for waiting for me, sweetheart.”

“I wanted you to be happy, Annie. We’ll do whatever you want for a wedding, too.”

He kissed her long and slow, the baby lying between them.
