“Uh, hi,” I said. “Can I help you?”

“Yeah, I was wondering if you’d like to dance?”

He was medium height with dirty blonde hair and brown eyes. He was super cute, but I didn’t need any more boy trouble. The last thing I needed was to go in there and dance with some random guy and incur the wrath of Damian Wolfe.

“Thank you, I appreciate the offer, but I have to pass. I came out here to get some air. I just needed to get away. I’m not very good in crowds anymore.” It wasn’t entirely a lie. I really wasn’t good in crowds anymore, but that had nothing to do with it. I just didn’t feel like dancing with anyone.

“Oh, I can understand that. What if I gave you a bit of space? Would you like to come back in with me and dance?” he asked, taking a step forward. That was literally the opposite of what he’d just offered.

Either my radar or pure paranoia sent a little rumble through my gut, telling me something wasn’t right. To be honest, I was almost positive it was paranoia. I no longer trusted my gut since it told me Asher was a good guy and Lily was a good woman.

My gut was no longer to have any part of any situation.

I smiled as friendly as I could with my anxiety hiking up. “Uh, like I said, I really appreciate it, but I’m seriously having some anxiety issues. I’d rather just stay out here for a few minutesaloneand then go in and sit with my friends. But thank you for the invitation.”

“Oh, come on! It’s a party! The more you drink, the less anxiety you’ll have. You’ll be feeling loose and crazy soon enough. I’m a patient guy. I don’t mind waiting. Finish that up, and I’ll get you another,” he said, giving me a bright smile.

I pursed my lips, no longer sure exactly where to go from that point. I’d said no twice. I didn’t know how much clearer I could be without being a dick.Go subtle dick. See if that works,I thought.

“I don’t drink much and didn’t plan to drink enough to get loose and crazy. I’m sorry, I’m just not interested. I just want to get some fresh air and hang out with my friends. Nothing else.”

His eyes narrowed, and he licked his lips as he stared me down.Uh oh, here we go.

“So, you’ll give it up to anyone else but me, huh?”

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. “Yep, here we go.”

“Here we go, what?” He angrily shifted his weight from one leg to the other. “First of all, don’teverroll your eyes at me, bitch. Secondly, if you don’t want fucked, don’t dress like a slut. Third—”

Just like I did with Damian earlier, I put a hand up. “I’m gonna go ahead and stop you right there, Baron Von Douche Canoe. These are my eyes.Mine. I do with them what I damn well please, and some spoiled asshole who isn’t used to being told no isn’t about to stop me. My clothes? I dressedfor me. Not for you. Not for anyone else. And if I planned to get fucked by anyone else? Also, not your business. Like my eyes, my vagina is mine and what I shove into it or allow others to shove into it is absolutely no concern of yours. Just like whatever you shoved up your ass before walking out here is none of my business. Now, if you’d like to keep your balls firmly attached to your undercarriage, I suggest you turn the fuck around and walk away.”

Without warning, the asshole swung to slap me with his left hand. Why my instincts told me to lift my left hand—the one holding the drink glass—to defend myself, I don’t know.

But it did.

And I wasn’t at all surprised.

His hand connected hard with the glass, and I managed to turn my face at the last second as the glass shattered, slicing into my hand and his forearm at the same time.

“Ah! Bitch!” he shouted. He backed away for a moment, inspecting his arm. It wasn’t bleeding nearly as bad as I’d hoped. To be honest, I’d hoped he’d have sliced a big nasty gash through it that would require rushing to the hospital.

Oh, well. Better luck next time, I suppose.

I used that moment of distraction to pluck two pieces of glass from my hand before turning my attention back on him. Fuck, that hurt like hell, but I had no idea if he planned to come at me again, and I wanted to be ready.

Slowly, I started to walk around him, keeping my eyes on him as he pulled a piece of glass from his arm.Good. At least one piece had gotten him worse than what I’d thought at first glance.

I tried to keep a wide berth, but my reprieve had come to an end as he chucked the piece of glass to the ground. He looked up and basically dove at me.

Deciding not to fuck around, I hit the ground and rolled out of the way before getting back on my feet. I hissed in pain as a burn settled into my bare side where I’d rolled on the rough pavement. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the glass cut me a bit, too, but I didn’t have time to look. At that moment, I was very glad I’d chosen to wear flat platforms instead of heels—though the scrapes on my torso had me wishing I hadn’t let Luna chop up my hoodie.

“Is this a fucking joke?” I asked. “You’re gonna attack me because I told you no? What the fuck is wrong with you?”

“No, I tried to slap the shit out of you because you’re a disrespectful cunt who needs to learn her place. Butnow, I’m going to beat your ass because you sliced my arm open, and you’re an entitled little bitch.”

“Actually, fucker, yousliced yourownarm when you tried to hit me because you’re a whiny little cunt who can’t take no for an answer and who thinks he’s entitled to someone else’s body. You did that to yourself.”

There weresomany things wrong with his statement, but I didn’t have time to dwell on it or argue more as he came at me again. He swung, and I managed to duck out of the way, but he was faster than I imagined. He snatched my ponytail hard and wrapped it around his fist, yanking back.
