While my brain screamed at me not to, to leave it all alone, my gut said otherwise.

Detective Abbott ensured me the money was both legal and mine, so I was free to do with it whatever I pleased. It disturbed me in many ways, and I had to push it out of my mind every time I started to think about it, or it would send me spiraling down into conspiracy land.

Where I was relatively certain I lived these days.

“Wooow,” I said when we approached Justin’s car. “This is… It’s sexy as hell.”

That car wasexactlythe distraction I needed.

“Ah, so she doesn’tonlyhave a taste for vintage.”

I shook my head. “No, I have a taste for anything sexy.”

He laughed, and I pulled my eyes away from the sleek black car to look at him. “Well, I could have told you that.” He winked.

My eyes rolled as I shook my head.

“Oh, sweet God,” I said as I averted my eyes back to the car.

“What?” he asked.

“Don’t look now, but Damian and Asher are over there smoking in one of their cars. I assume it’s not cigarettes since I’ve never smelled it on either.”

“Definitely pot. They don’t smoke cigarettes. You said you kind of missed the bastards, right?” he asked, stepping closer to me. I nodded. “They’re playing games with you. They think they’re in control right now. Wanna show them who’s boss?”

He gave me a look, one that said hedaredme to go for it.

“What did you have in mind?”

He shrugged. “I guess that depends on how far you’re willing to go,” he shot back.

My heart raced in my chest, and I suddenly feltverydaring. “You trusted me… so, I’ll trust you.”

“Hmm.” He smiled. “That could prove to be a bad idea with what I have in mind.”

I bit my lower lip. If it was good enough he didn’t want to tell me what it was, that meant it would be pretty scandalous. My curiosity ramped up with my need for adventure. I placed my purse on the ground in front of the car. It was close enough I didn’t worry about it.

I nodded. “I trust you.”

Stepping closer, I placed my hands on his chest and looked into his eyes. He leaned down and kissed me, slow at first, but as he grabbed the back of my neck, his kiss became crushing and almost painful.

I groaned against him, my entire body going weak with the kiss. As I weakened against him, his arms tightened around me, his hands reaching under my skirt to lift me on the hood of his car.

“Whoa. What if I scratch it?” I whispered between kisses.

“Oh, with what I’m planning, Ihopeyou do,” he said. Those words sent chills through me, even in the warm California evening sun. Not only did he not care if I scratched it, hewantedme to. “Baby girl, if you don’t claw the fuck out of my car, that means I failed in a big way.”

“Oh, my God,” I breathed, grabbing a fistful of his shirt and pulling him closer to kiss him.

His hands gripped my ankles, bringing them up so my legs split apart around him. I bent my knees, and he placed my boots flat on the hood as I leaned back on the car with him leaning over me.

“Still trust me?” he asked as he pulled away from the kiss, his fingers grazing my inner thighs.

“Yes.” My voice came out little more than a whisper. The warm breeze blew by, and it chilled my panties against me, letting me know just how soaked I was.

He grabbed me by the throat, giving me another hot kiss before standing. Placing his hands on my knees, he forced them further apart, licking his lips as he stared between my legs.

“If I told you I’d gotten off at least once thinking of this exact scenario—well, minusthem—would you hate me?” he asked.
