I lean heavily against the tree trunk.

This entire conversation has to be a dream. How else could I be their fated mates?

Are fated mates even real? They’re so rare, that most people believe the concept to be a myth.

“I’ve felt a connection to you the moment I set my eyes on you,” Julian says, his voice low but heavy with emotion. “I felt your pain and loneliness. I always need you close to me. Your presence never threatened me. If your parents didn’t suppress your scent, I’d have known you’re my mate so much sooner.”

He comes closer. “A regular awakening screws around with your hormones. I can only imagine how bad it is for you right now. Let me help you.”

“You should take your alpha’s permission,” I say, still unable to believe him. “Caleb’s been so kind to me these days. I don’t want to screw everything up by being too greedy.”

A pained look comes over him. “It’s your right to be with me,” he says. “Deep down, you know the truth but you’re too scared to accept it.” A harsh noise escapes him. “I know it’s our fault. We made you think we don’t want a second mate.”

“I still think you should talk to Caleb before—”

“Iris,” he says my name in a way that makes my heart pound harder. “You’re my fated mate. Even Caleb can’t come in the way of that. He’ll have to rip my heart out to stop me from getting close to you.”

An icy tendril wraps around my neck at the idea of such violence happening against him. I reach out and let my hand rest on his chest. “Don’t say that,” I say with a whine.

His hand closes over mine. “Stop being so scared, Wildflower. Let me take care of you.”

I can’t fight my feelings anymore.

Julian moves closer. Bending before me, he sweeps me off my feet and hauls me into his arms.

“I’ll not let you suffer anymore, Wildflower,” he says in a deep voice.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I close my eyes.

I’ve lost the battle against my desire.

Opening my eyes, I stare up at Julian as he carries me back to the house.

An unnatural calm spreads over me. I don’t know what’ll happen to my relationship with his alphas but I’m too tired of fighting my instincts.

I surrender.

Julian takes me back to his bedroom.

The bed is an untidy mess. My perfume still hangs in the air, mingling with Julian’s heady chocolate and vanilla. Damon’s smoky scent wafts into my nostrils when he places me on the bed.

Our combined scents wash over me, stoking the fire that’s raging inside me.

Julian stands over me, watching me with a darkened look in his eyes.

He starts removing the buttons of his shirt. “That sweater’s too much for what we’re about to do,” he says in a husky voice.

I sit up and drink in the sight of his hard, lean muscles. An urge to lick the planes of his pecs overwhelms me and all I can do is hurriedly take off my top.

My cheeks heat up as his eyes rove over my bra-clad breasts. A cool draft skims over my heated skin, bringing me little relief.

Julian climbs onto the bed and lays me back against the pillow.

The brush of his fingers on my skin draws out a moan from me.
