“Hey!” an unfamiliar voice barks behind me.

I turn around, facing five men. They’re all betas but dressed like security guards. Three young women stand behind him. One look at their pretty, dainty faces and stupid, fluffed-up dresses, and I know they’re omegas.

“Who are you?” one of the men demands. “You’re not supposed to be backstage. This is a prohibited area!”

“And they’re allowed?” I ask, gesturing toward the girls.

“We’re part of the stage committee,” one of the girls says, squaring her shoulders.

“I don’t see a badge,” I say.

She and her friends look like they’re juniors at the academy. They’re probably part of Mila’s clique.

“What’s this stuff doing here?” I ask, pointing at the two buckets.

The young women’s expressions toggle between nervousness and guilt.

“That’s none of your business,” the second girl says in a raised voice. “I can see you’re just a beta. You don’t belong in our school. You’re not supposed to be here.” She glances at the men. “Get her out of here.”

“Yes, ma’am,” the men chorus.

They step forward, their expressions threatening.

My feet slowly back away. “Are you doing this for Mila?” I ask.

“That’s none of your business,” says one of the girls. “Leave now or they’ll drag your ass out of here.”

“Were you planning on disrupting Delilah’s solo?” I ask, still keeping my eyes on the men advancing toward me.

“What’s it to you?” says one of the girls.

“She’s my sister.”

Surprise dawns on all their faces.

“You’reher sister?” One of them sneers at me. “Your whole family’s pathetic. Mila comes from the Atlas Pack. If we help her win the first position tonight, she’s promised to help us meet alphas from her pack. Delilah’s pretty but what’s the point? She’s got no connections. There are rumors your parents had to sell off their house just to get her to attend the academy.”

“Look at the state of her,” the third girl scoffs, gesturing at me. “It’s no rumor that Delilah Collins comes from a broke-ass home.”

“Delilah’s still the best omega at this stupid school!” I shout, my anger rising. “She’s fucking talented and you know it. My sister doesn’t need a pack at her back for success. Any alpha would be lucky to call her mate.”

“Enough of this,” says another girl. “They’ll start the showcase anytime now. Get her out of here.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” Standing straight, I plant my feet.

“Come along, kid,” one of the men starts to say and grabs me.

“Don’t touch me!” I snatch my arm away.

The man gestures for his friends to surround me.

My back hits the glass wall. Knowing there’s no space to back away, I position my stance.

The men flank my side and one of them makes the mistake of grabbing onto my upper arm.

I twist my body, easily loosening his hold on me. I swiftly change positions to reach behind him. In a move that’s quicker than he can comprehend, I dig my fingers into his shoulders and lay a kick at the base of his spine.

The man is thrown forward and crashes against two of his companions.
