Fear.

Hatred.

Anger.

They were all represented, highlighted by two beads of sweat trickling down his face. I took a deep breath then moved to my drink, lifting the glass and enjoying several sips. “Your time has run out. If you don’t make the decision, I’ll be forced to do it for you.”

He huffed and puffed, running his finger under the collar of his shirt, his face now as red as a beet. “Just toss the damn thing. You can’t hurt me.”

What a shame he wasn’t in the mood to play along. I had delicious choices for him depending on the outcome of each toss. “Very well.” I toyed with the coin for another full thirty seconds before tossing it into the air. It seemed to twist in slow motion, his eyes never leaving the glittery gold hue. When the coin finally fell and I captured it, I waited before slapping it down on my hand. “Are you excited to learn your fate, Senator Donahue?”

“Fuck you.”

I laughed before allowing him to see what fate had in store. His eyes were bulging as he looked down at my hand, a visible sign of relief crossing his face.

“It would appear it’s your lucky day, Senator.” I left the coin on my hand, allowing him to read the word ‘saint’ again. Then I moved to a standing position, finishing my drink before leaving over, tossing the coin in his direction. “I hope you’ve learned your lesson.”

I heard him breathe a sigh of relief as I walked away.

Little did he know I’d flipped the coin before revealing it. I laughed as I walked out of the club. Fate always had a funny way of righting wrongs.

Six weeks later

Weddings, funerals, and christenings.

They were the only reason anyone in my family considered stepping foot inside a church. However, on this day, the regality of the Catholic cathedral and the ambience was perfect for such a holy union.

As I made my way to the altar, I glanced out over the crowd. There were hundreds of people in attendance, media swarming the roads outside. Between our two families, there were dozens of soldiers positioned in various locations, including inside the holy space.

No one was going to fuck with this day.

Alexei shifted from foot to foot, glaring at Giada’s four brothers standing side by side, all of us in tight-fitting penguin suits. They’d accepted their roles as groomsmen, although with the firepower each of us carried in our jackets, we could start quite the bloody battle between our families.

“This is bullshit,” Alexei snarled, darting hateful glances toward several of the people in attendance.

“This was a requirement of the contract,” I answered, tired of going over this with him. I was no happier than he seemed, except I would finally be able to spend uninterrupted time with my lovely bride. My cock ached as my thoughts turned filthy. Peace had finally returned to the city, although there were constant rumblings of another flare-up given the Colombians had been reluctant to leave.

I glanced at my beautiful sister, who’d become enamored with Giada. She looked radiant, completely healthy, and without her usual fear making it impossible for her to enjoy the moment. Maybe this was the start of a new chapter in my sister’s life.

“Did you see the morning news?” he asked, this time his voice holding amusement.

I knew exactly what he was talking about. The poor senator had been found murdered in front of the kink club he’d frequented often. His throat had been slit, various carvings made over fifty percent of his body. “Not really. I had other things on my mind.”

He laughed. “Your handiwork?”

I eyed him carefully. “The senator played a game and lost, his proclivities getting the better of him.”

“As if I believe you.”

“Shush, brother of mine. We’re getting ready to begin.”

He glanced at me then sighed. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were happy about the arrangement.”

Happy. The word had been foreign to me.

Until I’d met Giada.
