“What time is the arraignment?” she asked, her entire body tense.

“Three-thirty.”

She didn’t bother looking at him as she walked closer to me, the electricity crackling as it always did between us. Just the sight of her pensive face tightened my cock against my pants painfully.

“You may not be as good as you think you are, Mr. Walker,” she stated. “However, I’ll see what influence I have left in my office.”

“No,” I stated, perhaps a little too firm.

“Allow her to do whatever she can, son. We need you here,” Pops said from behind me.

“You said you trusted me,” she half whispered as she walked closer.

“I do.”

“Then allow me to do my job, even if it might be for the last time.”

“Meaning what?”

“I need to talk with the attorney general.”

“You’re not leaving this house,” I insisted.

She placed her hand on my arm, cocking her head, and whispered the same two words. Trust me.

Huffing, I glared at Cassian, giving him a nod. “You’re to take Ms. Morgan wherever she wants to go, but you are staying with her. And she will only be gone a few hours.”

“You got it, boss,” Cassian responded.

“Have another soldier with you as well. She’s not to be out of your sight for a single second.” I made certain she nodded. “Go and wait for our friends, Cassian,” I told him, glaring at my watch. Time was ticking. I had the feeling as soon as Sergei realized I’d been arrested, he’d use that time to initiate another attack.

“That’s all I’ll need.” Stephanie squeezed my arm, giving me a slight smile.

“Do not disobey me on this.”

“I won’t. Not with this. I promise. What did the doctor say?”

She wasn’t going to let the injury go. “That I’ll live just like I told you. Stop worrying about me.”

I could tell she had something planned, yet at this point, I was more concerned with the recent events than I wanted to let on.

The casino was attacked at four-thirty in the morning, although it had taken almost two hours before I was notified. I was furious with my employees on site, as well as the members of law enforcement who’d arrived on the scene. The men in blue hadn’t given a shit a portion of the casino had been destroyed. Fortunately, it wouldn’t prevent the casino from opening, but it was a setback that hadn’t been anticipated.

It had also been a warning shot across the bow, Volkov acknowledging the two hits we’d made earlier in the evening. The streets were abuzz with news of an impending war, which wasn’t what we’d hoped to achieve. From the news we’d heard only a couple of hours before, Sergei had also eliminated the young officer who’d called in Sergei’s location, although the report stated the man had died in a car accident. I knew better. He wasn’t wasting any time.

“Will you leave us alone, Ms. Morgan?” my father asked.

“There is nothing you can’t say in front of her,” I retorted, almost without thinking. My father’s eyes opened wide, the snarl on his face softening as he studied my face. I watched as Cassian walked out of the room, my anger still just below the surface.

“Fine, son. Remember what I told you earlier.”

“You’re not going to threaten me, Father. I’m not in the mood nor will I tolerate it.” As I moved closer, Sevastian stepped in the middle, cursing in Russian.

“This isn’t what we need. Cut the bullshit. Ms. Morgan stays. I couldn’t give a shit at this point. Where is Viktor on locating Volkov?” Sevastian eyed our father for the answer.

“He’s searching. We do know he hasn’t left Moscow.”

“Not good enough,” I retorted. “I want Volkov and every man who works for him tracked.”
