Two Months Later

The soft earlyautumn breeze made the curtains drift into the room before sucking them back out again, carrying the sound of the radio with it. I dunked the paint roller into the tray once more, sliding it back and forth before lifting it to the wall and completing the last section.

Owen had painted it a buttercream yellow last month, but after staring at it for so long, I’d decided I hated the color and promptly asked him to get a pale, mossy green. Now, as I finished and looked over my handiwork, I felt vindicated because I loved this color so much more. I could picture the cream fabrics and wood features that I’d decorate with to complete the perfect nursery that could eventually become an adorable toddler room.

“You’re supposed to be relaxing.”

I spun, knocking the tray sideways, and the paint splashed out across the plastic drop cloth we’d laid out weeks ago. “I was.”

Owen lifted his eyebrow, grinning at me as he looked around the room. “This isn’t relaxing.”

“I found it relaxing.” I shrugged, smiling back at him.

“I told you I’d do it this weekend.”

“I know, but I was going stir-crazy in bed. There’s only so many episodes of Below Deck that I can watch before I want to drown myself in one of those oceans.”

He chuckled and walked over to me, rubbing his hand over my belly as he placed a soft kiss on my lips. “Well, I’m glad you went with painting instead of drowning. The three of us thank you.”

“See? Now don’t complain that I’m not in bed.” I grinned against his mouth before stepping back to clean up the sloshed paint.

“This was on the front doorstep when I got home. You’ve been online shopping again?”

I turned back to him, taking the package. It was addressed to me. “Always, but I wasn’t expecting anything today.”

I rested it on my belly, tugging on the packing tape until I managed to rip it and tore the box, flipping the lids up. Reaching in, I pulled out two custom onesies.

“I didn’t order these.” I flipped the first one over. Hey, Mommy. I frowned, dropping the box as I grabbed the second onesie and held it out in front of me. Daddy wants to know.

“Daddy wants to know?” I lowered the baby clothes and found Owen was gone.

No, not gone. On his knees.

“Oh!” I gasped, dropping the onesies as I covered my mouth in shock.

“Will you spend the rest of our lives with me for better or for worse?”

My eyes flicked to the beautiful, antique diamond in the box Owen held. “Yes! Yes, of course, I will!” I sank to my knees, wrapping my arms around his neck as I kissed him deeply.

His tongue slid against mine, his arms tightening around my waist as he pulled me flush against him. These days, being this close was made difficult by the massive belly between us, but we’d become pros at finding ways around it.

“I was nervous.” He admitted against my lips as he pulled back.

He took the ring from the box and lifted my hand to slide it on slowly. It fit perfectly, and the sight of it filled me with more joy than I ever thought possible. A year ago, I would’ve told you that I never planned on getting married again. Now, I couldn’t imagine not marrying Owen.

“Why?”

“I thought you might not want this because of your divorce.”

I smiled, stroking my fingers down the side of his face before pecking him softly. “That might have been true, once upon a time, but then I fell hopelessly in love with my boss, and there was no going back.”

He grinned, kissing me again as he slipped his tongue along the seam of my mouth, easing it open to him as we deepened the kiss and fell into each other. It wasn’t the most practical of places, but neither of us minded as he laid me back carefully and peeled my leggings off.

Kicking them away, I lifted my hips long enough to slide my panties down before sitting up on my elbows, reaching for him to help as he undid his pants and got them off. I pulled his mouth down to mine once more, our tongues lancing against one another as we found ourselves undressing at the pace of teenagers.

On his knees, he pulled my ass up onto his thighs. He ran his finger through my curls, pressing the tip of his finger to my clit as he swirled it slowly. A fire erupted through me, making my body burn with desire. So far, the upside to pregnancy had been the rush of hormones that made sex better than ever. My orgasms were harder, longer, and came so frequently that just seeing him playing with my body was almost enough.
