“So, when is the due date?” Lucas asks. “When should we expect the little devil?”

A giggle bubbles up and I cover my mouth. I’m so overwhelmed with joy. Why didn’t I tell them sooner? This was so easy—easier than I ever thought it was going to be. Sure, they were a bit shocked, but they love me and I love them. And now, we’re going to be a family.

“Late December or early January,” I say as Hunter, Lucas, and Alex surround me.

“And is it a boy or a girl?” Hunter asks.

I waggle my eyebrows mischievously. “That’s a secret.”

“And who is the father?” Lucas asks.

“Yeah, who is the father?” I bristle at Seth’s dark tone. The circle parts and I see Seth, still sitting on the couch, scowling at us. The joy leaves the air and I suddenly feel very cold under Seth’s cruel gaze.

“Well, based on what I know, it’s either Hunter or… or,” I swallow to give myself time to gain my confidence, “you.”

Silence. That’s all I get from Seth. I clench my jaw as Seth rises from the couch, reminding me of a snake about to strike.

“Me?” Seth asks while pointing at himself. “You think it’s me?”

I nod. “You or Hunter.”

Lucas visually deflates as he stands next to me, but he wraps an arm around my waist as if to tell me everything is alright.

“Wow,” Hunter breathes, looking misty-eyed. “It could be mine?”

“Or mine,” Seth says angrily.

Hunter smiles and squeezes my hand. “I really hope it’s a girl. I want to spoil her rotten.”

“Oh, my God, has everyone officially lost it!” Seth shouts while throwing his hands in the air. “I can’t believe all three of you are so fucking stupid.”

“And why, Seth, do you think we’re stupid?” Lucas asks, crossing his arm and looking fed up with Seth.

“We’re all way too young to have a child,” Seth says while shoving a finger into Lucas’s face. “I just got out of college. You are still building your career. What the hell are we going to do with a baby?”

“Feed it,” Hunter says.

“Burp it,” Alex adds.

“Change a hell of a lot of diapers,” says Lucas with a frown.

Alex snaps his fingers excitedly, completely ignoring Seth’s deepening scowl. “We should look into swimming for babies. After I found out about Rachel’s pregnancy, I looked into a few programs. It’s best to get them interested in sports as soon as possible.”

Seth groans and rolls his eyes. “You have got to be fucking kidding me!” He turns his scowl on me, closing the distance between us so he’s towering over me, which is difficult for Seth to do given his height. I must be that afraid of him. “And you lied to me.”

My heart cracks at his words and I swallow the sob bubbling up inside me.

“How could you, Rachel? When I trusted you the most.”

“I didn’t mean to,” I whisper, quickly wiping the tears streaming down my cheeks.

“And you!” Seth shouts while turning to Alex.

Alex flinches, but holds his ground, his jaw clenching.

“After everything we’ve been through, you decide to keep this from me?”

Alex sighs. “Seth, I told you before. It was Rachel’s—”
