“Don’t worry,” Lauren says while resting her hand on mine. “He will get with the program. Either that or you drop his ass.”

I really hope it doesn’t come to that.

“Wait, hold up,” Charlie says, her gaze dropping to my stomach. “When did this happen?” She gestures toward my belly before looking at Lauren. “And you already knew about this?”

Lauren nods. “I found out when she went running out of here.”

“That long?” Charlie shouts.

Lauren shrugs. “It really wasn’t that hard to guess. She has been gaining weight for a while now, despite being sick all the time.”

Charlie looks between us, her eyes wide. “How did I not know?”

Lauren rolls her eyes. “Because,” she starts with a flick to Charlie’s forehead, “you’ve been so obsessed with Mike these past months, you haven’t had any room for anything else.”

“Oh, my God,” Charlie breathes. “I’m a terrible friend.”

“No, you’re not,” I say quickly, take her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. “You’ve been sidetracked. That happens to all of us. And you’ve been busy trying to figure out what to do after we graduate. Besides, it’s not like I was going around announcing it. The bros didn’t know until recently.”

“What?” Charlie shouts, her eyes growing even larger.

“It’s fine,” I say, trying to steer the topic away from that little fiasco. I’m in no mood to talk about Seth, or how I’ve kept my pregnancy a secret for so long. I’m ready to move on and focus on preparing myself for the delivery. I only have about three more months until my little bun is here.

“How far along are you?” Charlie whispers. “You look… far.”

I chuckle. “Yeah, I suppose I am. The due date is late December, or early January.”

“That soon?” Charlie asks, her eyes dropping to my belly once more. “Who is the father? When is the baby shower? Where did you get that dress? And do they have one in my size?”

“I got the dress in the maternity department at H&M,” I laugh. “I have no clue if they have any in your size, but I suggest you go look. They’re having a sale.” I tap my chin, wondering if I should talk about the father with a class full of eavesdropping ears. “I suppose the baby shower is when you girls want to have it,” I say, deciding now is not the time to discuss the father situation. “Since I suspect you two are the ones who will be putting it on for me.”

“Oh, my God,” Charlie says, annunciating each word with a clap, “can we please decorate your house in pastel blue and pink? And there must be little cupcakes.”

“We could do a tea party theme,” Lauren says and Charlie claps her hands excitedly as she jumps up and down in her seat.

“Yes!” Charlie shouts.

“I don’t think the bros will be so excited about a tea party theme,” I laugh.

Charlie rolls her eyes. “Well, the party isn’t for them, now, is it?”

“What kind of party do you want to have, Rachel?” Lauren asks.

I shrug. “Something low-key, I guess. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant.”

“A tea party theme is definitely low-key,” says Charlie as she bobs her head.

I raise an eyebrow at her. “Really?”

“Well, I think…”

I hear buzzing coming from my purse and groan as I attempt to reach for it. “Sorry, girls, one minute. It might be Lucas with another lecture on how I need to manage my stress.”

Charlie and Lauren giggle as I answer without bothering to check the caller ID. “Whatever you’re about to say, Lucas, it better be good, because class is about to start.”

“Did you know your mother is getting married?”

Dad.
