“Yeah, but I’m fine now for the most part,” I say while stroking my belly. “Thanks to Hunter rushing me to the hospital.”

“I was there, too,” Lucas says angrily.

I chuckle. “Yes, I know. All of you were a big help in your own way.”

“Here you are!” Charlie announces while setting a smile present on my sparse lap. “Start with this one.”

“And after you can open this,” Lauren says while hovering behind Charlie and holding up a bigger present.

Mike looks between Charlie and Lauren, his smile turning sky. “I wonder if Charlie would like to a form a harem for me,” he mutters while turning away from me. “We could invite Lauren.”

Lauren and Charlie share an angry look.

“You do realize we can hear you, right?” Charlie asks angrily while flicking Mike in the forehead. “And there is no freaking way I will ever share you.”

Lauren wrinkles her nose in distaste. “Sorry, Mike. You’re not my type. At all.”

“Man, do I feel the love,” Mike mutters while finding a seat near Charlie.

Lauren rolls her eyes while I giggle. Charlie leans against the arm of Mike’s seat and runs her fingers through his hair. “I love you,” Charlie says. “That’s all you should really care about.” Mike smiles up at her and leans into her touch.

“Alright, Rachel, open your present,” Alex says excitedly. “I want to see what you got.”

My fingers pull at the ribbon. I pause briefly when I hear the doorbell ring.

“I’ll get it,” Lucas says. “It must be UPS. I ordered some more presents for you.”

I chuckle while Lucas goes to answer the door and continue pulling at the ribbon before moving to unwrap the present. I stop when I hear voices coming from behind. Voices I haven’t heard for what seems like forever. Voices that belong to a certain mother and her fiancé—who both do not know I am pregnant.

My head whips around and my eyes widen when I see Mom standing in the foyer with Bryan at her side. She’s dressed in a tight black dress that meets her knees and a leather jacket. Bryan wears something similarly. I have no clue what Lucas and Mom are talking about, but it looks heated.

Mom rolls her eyes at Lucas and turns toward me, her eyes widening as I slowly rise, displaying my swollen stomach.

“Mom?” I breathe. “What are you doing here?”

Mom sighs and plants her hands on her hips. “Rachey, why didn’t you tell me you’re pregnant?”

I grimace, not knowing what to say, and the longer I stand there, not saying anything, the worse I feel. I have no clue what to do, and so I do the thing I do best—I snatch my present and make my way up the stairs, needing to get as far away from her as possible.
