“Um…” Elliot looked me up and down, as if his eyes were human lie detectors, and he wasn’t entirely convinced. “You’ll just have to see for yourself. Can I pick you up at your door around… eight?Ish?”

“How about eight on the dot?” I replied.

“Sounds good,” he said, just as the elevator doors parted. “Sounds like a real plan.”

“You better be there,” I said, stepping out of the elevator before him. “Or you’ll be in big trouble.”

I didn’t know why I was doing this. Maybe I was just too lonely and needed a distraction.

“Don’t worry,” Elliot said as we came to my door. I unlocked it, letting out a sigh of relief to find most of Vivian’s things already cleared from our room. “I won’t let you down.”

Once again, I was in my room, combing through my purple hair and slathering my eyelids with matching purple makeup, getting ready for a party that would more likely contribute to the elements of the universe trying to ruin my life instead of keeping it together.

Oh, nostalgia.

Except, this time, I had the room to myself. Instead of reeking of alcohol, or perfume, it smelled of nothing but home. I’d unpacked my box of clothes to find a surprisingly pleasing array of clothing items—dresses I’d forgotten I had, neon fishnet stockings and enough off-shoulder sweaters to make any fallfashionistacringe. AKA, a certain Vivian Russo.

But I didn’t have to worry about her anymore, did I?

No. The answer was no. It had to be.

I heard a knock at my door, and before moving toward it, I checked my phone for the time. It was five minutes till eight. Nothing that had happened so far convinced me that it was Elliot who was not only on time, but early. Still, I got hopes up as I walked over to the door. I peered through the peephole and froze as I found myself looking into the bug-eyed versions of Leo and Felix.

Fuck.

“What do you want?” I ground out, trying to sound a little meaner than Ishould’ve. “Pussy?”

“Ha-ha. Very funny, Kat,” Leo replied, sticking his head closer to the door. “Can we come in?”

“No fucking way, I have a date and I am not going to mess this up tonight.” I muttered as I opened the door, putting a hand at my hips as I stood in the doorway, staring at them.

Leo pressed his lips into a solemn grin, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his khakis while Felix just stared at the floor. They looked as if they came to see if I was okay, but neither made a peep.

“Look,” I sighed. “If youwannatalk about the meeting, or whatever, make it quick.”

Leo blew out a harsh breath, pulled an envelope from his pocket and handed it to me.

I shot him a questioning glance, “What’s this?”

“Just open it, Kat.”

“It’s the least we could do.” Felix chirped up while flashing his charming smile.

Once I opened it, I was blown away. It was a round-trip plane ticket to England.

“What’s…why… you really didn’t have to…”I stuttered. I just couldn’t believe it. I mean I know they have enough money to throw around, but to spend it on me… to see Pierre?

“Thank you so much!” I cried as I threw myself towards them.

“You are welcome Kitty Kat. Now,” Leo paused, “we also came to talk about you. About… us.”

“Us?” I lifted an eyebrow. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

For a moment, Leo’s mischievous smirk flashed across his lips, and stepped forward, closing the space between us, almost completely. The tips of our noses were less than an inch apart, and I could feel his breath, fresh like mint or lemon, against mine. Felix also steppedforward, pushing past me into my dorm room. He situated himself behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I didn’t struggle… the excitement was getting to me.

Warmth radiated from Leo as he put his hand up against the doorframe, leaning his head in slowly, carefully, toward the crook of my neck.
