I catch Axel looking at me in confusion but then he brushes it off, not the least suspicious. It’s not unlike me to want my computer for comfort.
“I don’t know,” she says. “Doctors orders are for you to get some rest. Your brain shouldn’t have to overwork itself right now. We don’t know what the impact of the gunshot did to your eardrums and your neurological system.”
I do feel a bit dizzy still but that might just be the meds they gave me before they stitched up my ear. “I’m telling you, ma’am. My computer’s my happy place. You could get it for me, right Axel?” I ask him.
“Sure,” he says with a nod.
“Please. Ask the doctor,” I beg her and she gives in.
“Fine. I’ll check.” She turns around and heads out.
When it’s just Axel and me again, I say, “I need to get that laptop so that I can delete any records of me being here. Any saved records of my bloodwork. And then you need to go after Julissa. Can you go get it?” I ask, not waiting for the nurse to come back with permission. If anything, I’ll just hide it under my pillow or something.
Axel understands the assignment. He rushes out and returns with my laptop.
“Thanks. Alright, go.” I shoo him away as I start opening it up and getting to work. “Go protect Julissa,” I tell him.
He nods and starts heading toward the door before he stops and turns around, hesitating. “Are you gonna be okay?” he asks me.
And I nod without looking at him. “Yesss.” At the last second, I look up though and I say, “Thanks Axe.”
He smiles and runs off as I keep my ears open for the nurse's return. I move fast to hack their system and search for my alias. When I find it, I delete all of my records. My addiction to hacking and finding out more information causes me to linger on the system a little longer while I’m still alone. And as I’m just browsing files out of boredom, I come across more horrifying information.
Babies that have been born into this hospital have sometimes been pronounced dead at birth when they actually weren’t. They were being stored away like fucking merchandise into a private ward in the hospital where Robert Fucking Delaney has been collecting them for a very hefty amount of money. This fucking hospital has been the fucking main supplier. How did I miss them under the list of clients I found in his fucking system?
I soon find that they have been stored in his system under another name and the fucking head of this hospital is the one responsible for the backdoor deals but the entire staff is in on it as they ensure that some of these mothers are sent home without their babies, especially babies that came out not crying or blue leading the mother to believe their lies.
But it gets even worse. There are people here who sell their babies to the hospital or who “drop off” their unwanted babies without caring for what happens to them. I shut my laptop so hard, I’m not sure if the fucking screen cracked.
I can’t fucking stand this anymore and I can’t lay here in this fucking nasty ass place. I rip everything out of my body that connects me to the machine and I hook the laptop under my arm as I make my escape. Once outside, I take off running like a fucking crazy person. Out in the parking lot, the first thing I see is one of the hospital buses. Fuck it, I hotwire it, speeding out of there, heading back home. I park the bus further down the street and hurry up to the house, grabbing my cellphone to send Julissa a message about the new information I found out about this hospital because I want her to fucking destroy the place.
I also send her a message telling her where to find the fucking bus, hoping she gets to it before the staff realizes it’s fucking missing because she’s gonna need something to carry those kids in. If that doesn’t work though, I’ll fucking order her a fucking bus. Once I’ve sent her, Mikhail, and Axel the message, I lock the place up tight and arm myself just in case I need to use a weapon to defend myself if they come looking for me. Settled, I start working on some fucking new documentation for us because if we survive this, we’re gonna have to get the fuck out of this town.

MyphonebuzzesasI’m walking into The Delaney’s Home for Abandoned Kids. It’s from Calder. Where the fuck is he? I read his message and he’s telling me something about the fucking hospital being involved. Damn it, I hope he didn’t send that message to Julissa too. I tuck the phone back into my pocket and bust through the doors and the closer I get to the receptionists’ desk, the more the blood pounding in my veins becomes deafening. I’m halted by the dead bodies lying everyfuckingwhere. Fuck. I’m not sure if I’ve already missed her and I’m contemplating whether or not I should leave when I hear her.
She’s yelling at someone.
“Don’t fuck with me bitch! Tell me where your fucking boss is. You know I’m not playing when I say if you don’t tell me where that Delaney motherfucker is, I’m going to splatter your brains all over that fucking wall!” she yells.
I hurry forward, unsure where exactly she is in the building as her voice echoes. I’m stepping over bodies when I fucking slide and almost fall in the slippery pools of blood emptied from each body.
“Fucking no!” I cuss to myself, my heart pounding as I manage to fucking hold myself up. Now instead of hurrying, I’m tiptoeing trying hard not to fall and bash my fucking skull open, adding to the already abundant sea around me.
I hear the other person yell back, crying. “I don’t know. Please don’t kill me. I know he had an appointment today, that’s all I know!”
“Where?! Smartass?” she yells.
“I…I don’t remember. You’re making me nervous,” her voice shakes.
“Well fucking look it up on your stupid computer then! And write the address here because if I’m making you nervous now, you’re really going to shit yourself if I fucking lose it,” she responds. “And what about the fucking kids?” she asks.
“What kids?” the other person asks and I hear a thud followed by more crying.
“You know what fucking kids. The ones that are already fucking sold. Where are they? Where are they taking them?!” she yells.
