"Since Paul hired you and you cost the place more than we made for the first two weeks," McKaylah deadpans, but then sticks her tongue out at her.

"Oh, burn," Kennedy says with a cackle. Amelia smacks her in the arm, but that only makes her laugh more. "What? It's true. You were a train wreck."

"Well maybe if someone didn't force me to get a job with her…"

Kennedy smiles sweetly. "You love me for it."

Amelia rolls her eyes. "Whatever." She focuses back on McKaylah. "We've got it, Mik."

McKaylah thanks them and wishes me luck before walking away. Meanwhile, Kennedy comes over and wraps an arm around me. As I resist the urge to shrug her off, she leads me over to the glasses and bottles of liquor that line the shelves.

"So, how much do you know about bartending exactly?" she asks.

I shrug. "Enough to know how to make more drinks than reasonably acceptable for my age."

"Perfect, then you'll have no issues."

TWO HOURS GO BYand McKaylah still hasn't been back to tell me whether or not I got the job, but hanging out here isn't exactly a hardship. There's hardly any customers, and all the three of us have really been doing is joking around and experimenting with drinks.

Having not spent much time around any girls since Davi, it's both bittersweet and refreshing. I'm not a loner, but I've never felt connected to someone the way Davi and I were. She knew the ins and outs of my rough-around-the-edges personality, and she loved me for it.

One thing I have noticed is how different these two are. Kennedy is the kind to greet you with arms wide open, while Amelia seems to be a little more reserved. Since I got behind the bar, she's really only answered when Kennedy speaks directly to her, and she hasn't really tried to get to know me at all. Kennedy is the one leading all the conversations.

Amelia excuses herself to the bathroom at one point, and I watch as she leaves.

"I get the feeling she doesn't like me much," I tell Kennedy.

"Who, Amelia?" I nod, and she waves it off. "That's just how she is. She went through a lot at the beginning of last year. It's made her a little more...closed off."

Okay, that I can understand and relate to. I've spent years behind metaphorical walls that are meant to protect me, and, for the most part, they do. But sometimes I wonder what things would be like if I opened up a little more. Hell, if it wasn't for Noah basically forcing his friendship on me, I'd be all alone here.

"She'll warm up," Kennedy assures me after I don't say anything, and then looks like she's come up with the world's greatest idea. "You should come hang out with us tomorrow!"

"I should?"

"She should?"

Kennedy looks over her shoulder and sees Amelia is back. "Yeah. It'll be fun. We'll be at Casa Bronsyn-Donovan. Do you know where that is?"

I nod. "I was there last night, actually. There was a party there."

"That's where I know you from!" Amelia shouts, but as a customer jumps, she quiets down. "You were hanging around Mason Lockhart."

Ugh, great. "Eh, yeah."

She cringes. "Be careful around that one. He's got a reputation of doing sketchy things to get what he wants."

"Oh, I have no intentions of seeing him again," I tell her honestly. "I was just using him to get a rise out of someone."

Kennedy's grin widens. "I knew I liked you. Who is it?"

Honestly, I had no idea they were there last night, and if I've learned anything, it's never to show all your cards.

"Just a guy I know," I say with a shrug. "Do you guys go there often?"

Amelia tilts her head from side to side, and Kennedy snorts. "Well, Amelia lives there with her brother and her boyfriend, and I'm dating her brother."

I look at Amelia. "So you're Amelia... Bronsyn?"
