She blushes, and Kennedy answers for her. "Donovan, but with the way she and Zayn are, that's bound to happen eventually."

"That's adorable."

It's nice to see someone like her so happy, but no part of me envies her for it. There's nothing about investing all your time and energy into one relationship that has ever been appealing to me. The only person who had that kind of connection with me was Davi, and losing her all but killed me. I have no interest in feeling that kind of pain again, especially if the person leaves on their own accord.

"Seriously though—" Kennedy brings us back to the main topic. "You should come."

I don't want to intrude. Focusing on Amelia, I say, "Only if you're okay with it. It is your house after all."

She smiles; she must like that I'm respecting her space enough to not go if that's what she wants. "Yeah. Around three sound good?"

McKaylah comes over just as I nod. "Sounds perfect."

WALKING ACROSS CAMPUS, I'Mactually seeing things I haven't noticed the last few days. Like that there is a really cool-looking statue that sits at the opposite entrance to the one I use. I don't think I've ever seen such detail on a block of rock before. I was almost surprised when the guy didn't blink.

I considered calling Noah and having him drop me off again. I'm not sure what that guy does for a living other than driving for Uber, but he always seems to be available when I need him. Before I did it, however, I decided that walking would be better. For one, I didn't want to feel obligated to invite him to come with me. And two, I figured I could use the fresh air and alone time. Plus I’m not wearing heels.

During my interview yesterday, I really felt like I fit in well with Kennedy and Amelia—even if she barely spoke to me until the end. They seem like the no-bullshit kind, which is exactly how I am. I won't lie. A part of me is really hesitant about making friends again after losing Davi. But they seem to make it easy. It's natural with them, and that's something I can appreciate.

I get to the house right on time and walk up the steps. Before I can knock, however, Kennedy swings the door open and pulls me into her arms. My face squishes against her shoulder, and I lightly pat her back.

Great. She's a hugger.

"You came!" she squeals.

A guy chuckles behind her. "Babe, let the poor girl go."

"Shit!" She releases me. "Sorry. I just wasn't sure if you'd come."

I smile hesitantly. "Well, here I am."

"Don't worry," Amelia tells me. "Once Kennedy stops looking at you as shiny and new, she stops jumping on you."

Kennedy pouts and goes over to Amelia. "Aw, is someone jealous?"

Amelia rolls her eyes as Kennedy wraps her arms around her. "That wasn't at all my point."

"Sure it wasn't, babe," she teases.

Kennedy introduces me to Easton first. He kind of looks like a good guy gone bad, in a way. His brown hair curls, but not enough to be considered curly, and he has matching chocolate-colored eyes. In a way, he reminds me of a teddy bear, though I don't think I'd ever tell him that.

And then I meet Zayn. Different from Easton, he just looks like a total badass. Tattoos cover most of his arms, and I even see some peeking out from under his shirt. His black hair is swooped out of his face, showing off his eyebrow piercing. I don't know what I expected when I pictured Amelia's boyfriend, but it sure as shit wasn't this. She looks like Barbie, and he’s, well…not Ken. But when I see the way he looks at her as she sits on the arm of the chair next to him, it's obvious that guy would do anything for her.

"So, you're going to be working with these two idiots?" Easton asks.

Kennedy pouts playfully, but I just snicker. "Yeah. McKaylah hired me yesterday."

"They made her do a working interview," Amelia tells Zayn.

He snorts. "It's a good thing they didn't give you one. You never would have gotten the job, and I never would have gotten free alcohol. What good would you be then?"

She goes to elbow him in the chest but he catches it before it can hit him and pulls her into his lap. "You're the worst boyfriend ever."

"You sure know how to pick ’em." He leans forward and kisses her quickly, shutting her up as she can't help but smile.

THE FIVE OF USend up in the kitchen, Kennedy having convinced me to make one of the drinks I concocted last night for Easton. Sure enough, she must know her boyfriend well, because he loved it. The whole thing is very easygoing, and as the doorbell rings, I'm not even nervous to meet the other friends they have coming over.

Okay, maybe I'm a little nervous.
