I stand perfectly still, barely even breathing as I watch Tye walk away after delivering one of the harshest blows I've ever felt. After what Jace told me about their conversation two nights ago, I know she blames me for Davi's death, but I never realized how strong that grudge is until now. She really thinks it's my fault her best friend is dead, and I have no idea how I can fix that.

Once she's out of view, I turn around and go back inside Zayn's house. It's eerily quiet, with no one really knowing what to say, but when Z gives me a look as I sit down, I know it's because they heard. The argument between Tye and me, they heard every word.

"She's such a fucking bitch," Paige grumbles.

I shake my head. "She's really not, though. Or at least she never used to be. Not to us."

She rolls her eyes. "Are you forgetting that she took the stand and tried to convince a jury that your best friend killed someone?"

"No," I reply honestly. "I don't think I could ever forget that, but she didn't know any better. She's hurt and angry."

Paige crosses her arms over her chest and leans into Jace. "Well, I don't care. She needs to fuck off back to Florida."

"What if it was Becca?" Jace asks her, naming her best friend since diapers.

Jumping up as if she's been burned, she glares at him. "You're defending her now?"

He sighs and takes her hand. "No, but what if it was Becca? What if something happened to Becs, and you genuinely thought you knew who did it?"

"They wouldn't have been alive to make it to trial."

Jace smirks. "See? You're more like her than you think, and if you met her before Davi died, you probably would have even gotten along."

Zayn's brows furrow. "I still have no idea what's going on. Who is she?"

"Davianna's best friend," I answer. "She showed up Friday night. We had no idea she was here or even transferring until we saw her at the party."

Amelia looks between Zayn and me. "Do you think she was trying to use us to get closer to you?"

"No. I saw the look on her face when we walked in. She had no idea we would be here."

Zayn clearly agrees. "Yeah, there's no way she's that good of an actress."

"That doesn't make her any less of a psycho," Paige chimes in.

Kennedy flops down on the couch next to Easton and tosses a piece of popcorn into her mouth. "I like her. She has a fiery personality that speaks to my soul."

Easton chuckles at his girlfriend, and now that Paige seems to be dying down, the mood is lightening, but I can't stop thinking about how broken Tye looked as she screamed at me.

If I'm responsible for that look on her face, I'll take everything she throws at me.

A HALF HOUR INTOus being here, Zayn steps outside to smoke a cigarette and I join him just to get a little fresh air. I've watched plenty of people smoke before, and I have to say, I've never been tempted to try it before now. Zayn must be able to sense my tension, because his brows raise as he looks at me.

"You good?" he asks.

I sigh heavily. "Would you believe me if I said yes?"

"Do I look fucking stupid to you?"

"Yeah, I figured." The two of us sit down on the step, and I rest my head in my hands. "There's a lot of history with her. I don't know if I can even explain it."

He hums. "Mind if I try?"

"Knock yourself out."

"You were dating her best friend. You fell for her instead. Her best friend died. She hates you. You still want her." He pauses and turns to me with a smirk. "That about cover it?"

I roll my eyes and chuckle. "Smartass."
