"None of that is okay. You're a woman, not a piece of meat for them to drool over. Have you told Zayn any of this?"

"No," she says immediately. "Definitely not. He would either insist that I quit or sit at the bar with a baseball bat."

I hum. "Sounds like a good guy."

"He's amazing." She smiles. "Carter is, too. I don't know if you know that."

Oh, here we go. "There are a lot of words I'd use to describe Carter, but I don't think amazing is one of them."

"You really hate him that much, huh?"

"It's complicated, but yeah. And I know he's your friend, but that's not going to stop me from giving him what he deserves. I'm sorry."

She presses her lips into a thin line and thinks it over. "Can you at least promise me he'll be okay? Like you're not going to physically harm him or do anything traumatizing?"

"I'm not a total psychopath," I drawl. "His ego will be bruised, but I'm not planning on murdering him, if that's what you're thinking. Prison isn't really my scene."

Amelia laughs. "I think I can handle that then."

"You can?" She nods. "So you and me. We're good?"

"Yeah. We're good."

The two of us go quiet as we walk across campus, but it's not awkward or uncomfortable at all. However, a few moments later, she snickers.

"Did you really dye his hair blue?"

"Okay, that one was a favor." I bite my lip to keep from laughing while Amelia doesn't hold back. "What? I thought it looked good!"
