He casts his eyes downward at her. "Yes, CBP?"

Tess huffs at the nickname that stands for cute but psycho. "Why does Paige look like she wants to cut me?"

Zayn snorts as Knox just smiles. "Remember when you used to be a bit of a hoe before you went and got all domesticated? Yeah. It might come back to bite you in the ass."

She takes a deep breath as she looks at Jace. "Shit. I need a drink if I'm going to deal with this mess."

As she heads for the bar, the sound of something crashing in the kitchen is so loud that it makes everyone stop and look around. Amelia gives Zayn a look from across the room, and the two of them head back there.

"Their relationship is fucking exhausting," I sigh.

Knox laughs. "Nah. Kennedy is good for him. E is just being a dumbass."

Jace and Paige seem to be in their own little world while Jace grovels due to his slip of the tongue. That just leaves Knox and I alone to talk, which is not a situation I'd ever voluntarily find myself in. And even more shocking, I didn't think it would feel so easy. I've hated the guy for as long as I can remember.

"It's been what, three years since they were together?"

He nods. "Yeah, but he was crazily in love with her, no matter how much he tried to downplay it. I'm not sure if he will ever fully get over her."

I hum. "Are you fully over Hailey?"

Knox and Hailey were the couple from North Haven High that everyone thought would end up together. They were so on and off that no one ever knew what was going on with them. The epitome of fire and gasoline. And yet, everyone was so sure they were end game.

Chuckling, he shakes his head. "Have you seen my girlfriend? Hailey isn't even a blip on my radar anymore. But I was never in love with Hailey."

"Fair enough."

I guess a part of me is looking out for Delaney. Despite the fact that her and Knox have been together for years now, I still want to make sure he's treating her right. I never thought he was good enough for her, but who knows. I am willing to entertain the idea that I can be wrong.

"What about you?" he asks. "Did you figure out what to do about Satan in stilettos?"

I snort at the accurate description. "It's a day-to-day thing."

"I met her earlier. Amelia introduced me."

"How'd that go?"

Swallowing down the swig of beer, he grins. "She verbally knocked me out within the first ten seconds."

My chest fills with pride and I laugh. "That sounds like her."

"You have your hands full with that one," he tells me.

I look down at my drink and smile. "She's worth it, though."

"Where is the firecracker?" He turns to look behind the bar, and when he sees Tye and Tess having a conversation, he groans. "Aw, shit."

Knox marches over to where Tessa is sitting, and I follow behind him. When he gets close enough, he doesn't hesitate to interrupt them.

"No. Absolutely not," he demands, making Tessa laugh. "You two cannot be friends. It's not allowed. The world can't handle that shit. Everything will go up in fucking flames!"

"Drama queen, much?" Tessa remarks playfully.

He grabs her by the arm and nicely pulls her away. "You've been here ten minutes and you're already wreaking havoc. I can only imagine the destruction of a Tye-Tessa tag team. Come on."

"Call me," Tess calls out to Tye.

Knox turns back and points. "You will do no such thing."
