Placing my knuckle under her chin, I lift her face until she's looking at me and dip down to press my lips to hers. The kiss is slow and everything that she needs to ease her fears, showing her she has absolutely nothing to worry about, even though she acts like she's not worried at all. She sighs contently as she kisses me back.

"I'm just going to grab one of Jace's shirts, and then I'll be ready to go, okay?" I ask.

She nods, and with one more kiss, I reluctantly let her go.

WE WALK ACROSS CAMPUShand in hand, and I honestly don't think it gets better than this. She's come such a long way since the night she went all demolition derby on my car. There's an almost constant smile on her face, and she doesn't look like she's constantly on the verge of an anxiety attack. It isn't until we turn the corner near her dorm building that a familiar, yet unwelcome, face stops her in her tracks.

"So what," Noah scoffs, "I go away for a couple weeks and come back to you fucking the enemy?"

Ugh, this guy is such a prick.

Tye lets go of my hand and takes a step closer to Noah. "Hey. When did you get back?"

He shakes his head. "That's not important. What the fuck are you doing with him?"

She glances back at me and sighs. "We've been...spending time together."

"That's just a classy way to say you've been fucking," Noah states.

Tye runs her fingers through her hair. "Let's just go talk. I'll explain."

He snorts. "Explain what? You're so much better than him. What the fuck are you doing? And what would Davi say if she were here?"

That comment hits her right where it hurts, and I watch as she recoils, wrapping her arms around herself, and it mentally takes her right back to where she was. I'm not just going to sit here and watch this prick verbally beat on her for something she isn't even doing wrong.

I step closer to Tye and wrap an arm around her. "All right, man. I think you're a little out of line."

"I'm out of line?" he roars. "That's really rich, coming from you."

"Look, I don't want any issues. Just report back to Mr. Sorrentino that Tye is doing just fine and leave it alone. If she wants to talk to you, she'll call."

Tye's brows furrow as she steps out of my hold and turns to look at me. "Wait. What does Vincent have to do with this?"

I sigh, wishing she already knew so I didn't have to break it to her. "Wyatt looked into him for me. Until a couple weeks before you moved out here, he worked for VinSorr International."

Her eyes fill with hurt as she looks at Noah. "Is that true? You were just spying on me for him?"

Noah's jaw locks. "It isn't like that. All he cared about was that you were okay."

"That doesn't matter. You lied to me."

"Tye," He says as he goes to take a step toward her, but she takes one back.

I move so that I'm standing in front of her enough to protect her from him. Noah focuses all his rage on me. His eyes darken and his fists clench, like he's angry enough to fight me.

"Are you pleased with yourself, you fucking prick?" he growls.

Putting my hands up in defense, I stay calm. "Hey, I didn't make you lie to her. That was all you."

He laughs darkly. "Oh, and you've always been so damn truthful with her, huh? You haven't even told her how her best friend really died."

My stomach drops as Tye whimpers behind me. I stay completely still, but I already know the damage has been done. I can practically feel the distance between us growing by the second, and when I finally get the balls to turn around, it's there on her face.

Hurt.

Devastation.

Betrayal.
