“Okay love. As long as you’re sure.”

I nod, and just like that, he lets the matter go completely. If he had pressed on, would I have ended up telling him everything? I almost feel as if it’s right there, ready to boil over at any minute. Ugh, I can only imagine the mess that would turn into – sitting in this diner trying to rationally explain to my fiancé that I’ve been cheating on him for the last month and a half with my brother’s best friend. I mentally roll my eyes at the idiocy of it all.

I WALK DOWN ONTO the docks with my phone clenched in my hand. As soon as I left the house, I tried calling Colton. He didn’t answer, though I’m not sure I expected him to. He very well may not be here, but it’s my best shot. I know that if he is on the boat, he wanted me to come and find him. If he’s here, there’s hope for us yet.

The lights are on across the entire boat and the cabin door is wide open. A part of me starts to panic. What if he’s in there with another woman? He wouldn’t bring her back to Maverick’s because Tatum would either kick his ass, or tell me about it. Okay, maybe this was a bad idea.

As soon as I go to turn around, Colton emerges from the cabin – alone.

“McKenna?”

I stop, knowing I can’t leave now. He’s already seen me and if I walk away, he’ll think I don’t want to talk about this, which I do.

“What are you doing here?”

Running my fingers through my hair, I try to conceal the way my heart is pounding inside of my chest. “I was looking for you. I wanted to talk, about earlier.”

He looks as if he’s having some intense mental debate before he finally relaxes and puts his hand out to help me step onto the boat. It’s obvious that neither one of us want to let go, but we do anyway. We sit down across from each other. As he looks into my eyes, I can see all the pain he’s trying to hide. The thought alone of him hurting makes me feel sick to my stomach.

“I’m sorry.” I start. “I know we discussed me staying with Parker while we figured out whatever this is, but we never talked about the wedding. I didn’t realize continuing to plan it would be such a big deal.”

He snorts. “How could it not be? God Mac, every time I even think about you walking down the aisle to him, my blood runs ice cold. If it were up to me, you would’ve cancelled the whole ordeal months ago.”

The options weigh heavily in my mind. In my heart, I know I can’t cancel everything. To do that would require me to tell Parker that marrying him is no longer what I want, and I’m not sure that’s true. Cancelling the wedding would hurt Parker, but continuing to plan it hurts Colton. Overall, I can’t win. So instead, I settle on a happy medium and hope it’s enough for him.

I take out my phone, press speed dial five, and put it on speaker. Colton watches me carefully as it rings. Finally, his eyes widen when he hears the person answer.

“Hey. How was the cake tasting?” Tatum asks.

“It was good, but I needed to talk to you about something.”

“Okay.” She says hesitantly. “Is everything alright?”

My eyes lock with Colton’s as I say the next words. “Yeah, but I need you to slow down on the planning.”

“D-did you make a decision?!”

Colton raises one brow, as if silently asking me the same thing. I chuckle softly. “Not yet, but just go at a more lax speed.”

She groans, clearly not happy wi

th me. “McKenna, this wedding is two months away. If it’s going to happen, I need time to get everything done. It’s already on a crammed schedule as it is.”

“I get that, I do, but for now, I just need the planning to slow down.”

Tatum sighs but ultimately agrees. After all, when it comes to this, she works for me. As soon as I hang up the phone, Colton stands up and takes a step toward me. I narrow my eyes at him and lean back in the seat as he hovers over my body.

“What are you doing?”

“Well,” He murmurs, pressing his lips against my neck and causing me to shiver. “All day, I’ve had this anger pent up inside of me, just begging to get out. So now, I’m going to fuck it out of me and absolutely ruin you for anyone else. By the time I’m done, you won’t even remember who he is.”

Without giving me a moment to respond, he covers my mouth with his own and sucks the words right out of me. I gasp at the contact, giving him the perfect opportunity to slip his tongue inside and tangle it with mine. My nails drag down his back as he grinds himself into me. I can already feel how rock hard he is beneath his shorts.

“Colton.” I moan.

He smirks against my lips. “That’s right, baby. That’s the only name I want to hear come out of that pretty little mouth of yours.”

I whimper at his words, loving the way he takes control. His body radiates a level of seduction and domination that makes every part of me his for the taking. It’s so sexy that it’s dizzying. I’d follow him blindly if it meant he continues to touch me like he is right now.
