“Good.” I answer. “It’ll give me something to focus on while this ones off being a hotshot hockey player.” I nod toward Holden.

Suddenly, Caleb snickers to himself. “I just realized something.” We all look at him expectantly, and he turns to Bree. “Everyone in the bridal party is dating each other, except for us.”

We watch the two of them, laughing quietly to ourselves. I’m not entirely sure where he’s going with this, but it’s amusing. Holden puts his lips near my ear.

“I thought my sloppy seconds weren’t his thing.” He whispers.

I side-eye him. “Are you jealous?”

He chuckles as he shakes his head. “No, baby.”

Bree attempts to ignore Caleb’s observation, but when she looks up at him from her phone, he winks at her exaggeratedly. It’s clear he’s joking but she grabs the nearest couch pillow and throws it at him anyway.

“Never going to happen, Sutter.”

He feigns devastation. “What happened to all those nights we spent together under the stars?”

She rolls her eyes and smiles. “That was one night Caleb, and we were looking for a drunken Taylor.”

“You’

re breaking my fragile little heart.”

They continue to joke, while something else catches my attention. Jo and Jason are whispering about something, but it doesn’t look good. He goes to put his arm around her, but she shrugs it away. Something is off between them. I wonder what it is.

Chapter 13

Isit on the bed and watch as Holden carelessly tosses clothes into his suitcase. Rolling my eyes playfully, I wipe away my tears and start taking it all out. He turns around with more items and frowns.

“Baby, I love you, but making it hard for me to pack can’t keep me here.”

I ball up the shirt in my hand and throw it at him. “I’m folding it, you big doof. Pack everything like this and you’ll need to iron it all when you get there. Do you even know how to use an iron?”

His guilty expression is enough to tell me he doesn’t. “I’ve never really needed to learn. My mom did it for me, and then I lived in a fraternity. Now, I have you. I can always find someone else to do it.”

“Oh, I get it. So, you’re just with me for my basic living skills.”

He chuckles. “Damn. You caught me.”

I continue folding his clothes neatly as he comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist, resting his head on my shoulder. With him leaving tomorrow, I don’t know the next time I’ll feel him hold me like this. Just the thought of that alone makes me tear up again. One slips down my cheek and lands against his face.

“Hey.” He stops me, taking the shirt out of my hand and tossing it onto the bed. I turn around in his arms and snuggle into his chest. “Baby, don’t cry.”

A wet laugh leaves my mouth. “You’ve been telling me that all morning. I can’t help it.”

His fingers run through my hair and he kisses the top of my head. “Just say the words and I’ll give it all up.”

“No.” I sigh. “This is everything you’ve ever wanted.”

“You’re everything I’ve ever wanted.” He corrects.

I pull away and look up at him. “But so is this. You can have both. I want you to have both.”

He gives me a small smile. “Have I told you lately how much I love you?”

“Eh, you may have mentioned it.”

“Maybe I should just show you then.” He smirks, taking everything on the bed and pushing it onto the floor.
