Laughing, I grab my picnic bag and follow after him. It doesn’t take long to drop everything in the back of the truck. Before I know it, we’re standing in front of Asra’s back door.

I pause. “Should we knock?”

“Maybe I should be calling you the princess.” He grabs the door knob and twists.

It doesn’t move.

With a smirk, I raise my eyebrows and knock.

Nothing.

I knock again. Then wait a minute.

Still nothing.

My pulse quickens as my blood pressure rises.Flashbacks to Friday fill my mind.

Brendan glances through her kitchen and living room windows from along the long porch. From the giant window in the door, I can tell it’s completely dark inside. Pushing me out of the way, he rings the doorbell, waits one second before ringing it again, then bangs on the door.

“Asra, you in there?” He waits another second before ringing the bell three times in a row and trying the door knob, again.

A tiny tingle radiates from between my shoulder blades up through my neck. My muscles tense as my blood pressure increases even higher.

Finally, a light pops on at the front of the long house. A moment later, a thin silhouette fills the door’s large window.

The tension in my neck and shoulders eases, yet my heart speeds up even more.

“What?” she demands, yanking the door open. Messy hair frames her face. The same clothes from yesterday hang off her thin frame in a crumpled mess.

“We’re kidnapping you, let’s go,” Brendan blurts.

She doesn’t even bat an eyelash as I elbow him in the gut.

“What he meant,” I cast him a sideways glare as he folds his hands over his stomach and grunts, “was, would you like to spend the day out with us?”

A grimace stretches across her lips as she looks down at her wrinkled outfit. “Now?”

“Yeah. Come on, grab your shoes.”

“Um.” Her gray eyes find Brendan’s before looking back at her outfit.

“You don’t gotta dress up for what we’ve got planned.”

“You planned something?” Everything about her sends all my blood straight to my dick. Even as she shifts her weight and fidgets with the hem of her robe, she’s adorable.

“It’s a surprise.” The giddy tone in Brendan’s voice says he’s just as excited as I am.

“I promise, it will be shady,” I add. We’ve thought this all through. Every possibility. Everything that might trigger another attack.

I’m not taking chances. I want to prove to her that we can take care of her. We won’t hurt her. Ever.

She sighs. Running her hands through her hair, she pouts when her fingers catch on a knot. “Give me five minutes.”

Brendan glances at his watch as she turns and heads back through her house.

“Seriously?” I jab him in the side again.

“What?”
