“You’re still alive,” I said, an enormous rush of relief ebbed from me.

“I’m not binding,” he said, pushing into me. “Still inside you, still very much alive.”

“Still very much inside me,” I said and laughed.

“I’m staying here until I can start again.”

I laughed at that.

“He can’t kill me because I’m an angel. He is stronger than anyone on earth, but the gods would never allow their angels, especially those guarding another god, to be killed.”

“But he said he would kill anyone who got in his way. Any of my knights who bound to me.”

“And what did you do?”

“I didn’t...”

Realisation washed over me, and I pushed my head against the pillow.

Blake kissed my cheek. “You should have followed your head and not your heart. You were always stronger than him when you were bound, especially to your fated mates. He didn’t want that. Now all you need to do is bind to me.”

Chapter 34

Lacey

Iwasconsideringmylife more after losing Ryan. Death was a glorious reminder that life was for living and the thought made me appreciate every day I had with Aria, and I no longer wanted to spend the weeks away from her while I studied.

Luckily, Kane and Seb felt the same, and we gave up the lease on the house and now we drove the hour journey every day.

Because in all reality, I really didn’t know if I only had a couple of years left, or much longer, but as my lives had always ended prematurely, never living past the age of twenty-one. An age I knew too well was nearing too quickly. The reason I had decided to gain my full powers and fight the dark king just before I reached the age.

First, I wanted to get the war over with, but the counterargument was my life could end because of him instead. I no longer wanted to take that chance and now I had made the decision that once I was fully bound to my fated mates and knights, I could enjoy my time with them and fight just before that dreaded age came.

But the negative with travelling each day was I was spending less time around university, which meant less time with Blake. Although I now met up with him most days during the week, and he’d been kind about the arrangement, but I knew he secretly wasn’t too happy about it. But we always made time for each other and today I was meeting him for a coffee before his afternoon session, but first I was meeting Zena in half an hour for lunch. And Zena always knew how to pull me out of my melancholy.

As long as she didn’t get me running again. Since that day, we’d spent more time in the gym for both of our safety.

I’d finished my last lesson of the morning and headed to the coffee shop, feeling happier than I had of late. I strolled from the campus and across the car park and was sure there was a smile on my face because I felt at ease.

Clay was right. My heart was slowly healing.

I jerked at a sharp sting of something slapping my arse. I swiped, angry someone had rudely interrupted my moment of bliss. But I had a sinking feeling in my gut and I twisted and ducked as adrenaline burned inside me, because it was unusual to get this close to me without me knowing.

Without me sensing it.

I was losing my touch.

It was most unusual that l I hadn’t heard the slightest of sound.

The next time I did...

I heard the whoosh of a hand travelling at quick speed through the air, and I was glad I ducked, as that punch could have done some damage to my face.

I jerked in the direction, stopping in an instant. Then I kicked my leg out, and the prick went down. Hitting the ground with a thud.

I dropped my backpack and back flipped away from him and landed back on my feet, suitably enough away to see there were actually two of the creeps.

One with long white hair, tied in a topknot on the top of his head. His emerald green eyes were dazzling and beautiful, yet so cold. I glanced to his right. The other had bright red hair, the same colour eyes as the one on the left.
