This time Kane must have used his angel strength, because Ryan sat on the floor and grinned.

“Where the fuck is she?” Kane growled.

Ryan pushed himself off the floor with a smirk slashed across his face. “Where’s Lacey? You won’t find Aria unless I see her, so I would advise you not to touch me again.”

“Lacey is on her way,” I said, as Ryan’s shirt stretched across his chest as he began to gradually shift into his wolf. “Now tell us where Aria is?”

Kane ran at Ryan, stopping him from fully shifting into his wolf form, sending both of them rolling across the ground. When they stopped, Kane held him down, pounding his fists, one, two, three, into his face.

Ryan didn’t flinch. He took each blow.

I pulled Kane off him. “Where the fuck is Aria?” I screamed.

Ryan turned his attention to me and laughed. I ran over to him and finished what Kane had started.

Ryan pounced onto his feet, laughing as his hands turned into claws. His wolf hadn’t fully evolved, but it was already noticeable how much stronger he was.

Ryan evaded every duck and dive, and each time I tried to hit him, he slashed my arm with his claw. Kane jumped onto his back, holding his partially shifted arms back as I punched, my rage increasing the speed with each thump.

He lurched to the side, throwing Kane off his torso, leaving him sprawled on the floor. Ryan threw himself onto me, his talons curled in my shoulders. I shook him off.

“Find her,” I mouthed to Kane. “I’ll be fine.”

I sprinted away from Ryan, eventually stopping, and turned to him. Forging my angel wings before running back toward him and expanding the dark flanks behind me and I glided into the air to avoid his claws. Ryan sprung from the floor and slashed my leg.

“I’m going to kill you. You ruined everything,” Ryan roared. His voice was a mix of the old Ryan and the deep growl of his wolf. “And then I’ll still find her and take her.”

I laughed hard. “You didn’t understand she already had fated mates. You thought nice Ryan would get you there, never realised the strength of fate, but I always knew there was something off about you. I didn’t understand why I was jealous of you. I had no reason to unless you were a new fated mate, but I knew you weren’t.”

Ryan roared on the ground beneath as I flew around him. I waited as Kane shifted into his angel form. His large silvery white wings spanned out behind him as he disappeared to find Aria. We knew she couldn’t be far away. Ryan wouldn’t leave her far from him. She was his collateral to get Lacey, after all.

In the distance, I could see Kane halt in the air before he swooped low as he searched the land around. I turned my attention back to the man I hated. This was between me and Ryan now.

This was going to end.

Now.

I swooped low and turned at the last minute and kicked Ryan in the face. He slashed a claw against my already bleeding leg, but the agony I expected wasn’t forthcoming. My rage had overtaken all rational emotions, and luckily, the pain had gone.

I flashed my wing over him, he crash landed on the floor. His first mistake.

I swooped down, ready to deluge punches on his face, but Ryan shook it off and pounced to his feet and his body shifted again, the muscles in his limbs now bulky, but he still wasn’t the full white wolf we knew he now was.

I swooped into the air and waited.

Ryan sneered as he raked his claws down the side of his face and across his throat. A single act of challenge, letting me know this was me or him.

And he thought this was him.

He gave a twisted laugh. “I’ve always hated you. I hated that you knew I was something else, and I made a mistake in not killing you a long time ago.”

“Have you not learned by now you can’t kill an angel?”

Ryan sneered. “I think you’re about to find out that isn’t entirely true. You forget, I’m the master of the knowledge. I know everything and what I don’t know, I make sure I find out. I’m about to kill you Seb and I am going to love the moment I watch as your life ebbs from your eyes.”

I swallowed at that. I was an angel.

“Angels don’t have the same protection once they become fallen,” he said. He paced around the ground beneath me, glancing up. “Only Lacey could save you now. Only a god, Seb.”
