Oh fuck!

I peered as much as I could to the side of the blindfold, trying to move the material with my nose just a little to see to one side.

I gasped at what I thought were large wings. I couldn’t see the colour because the sunlight bounced off them and made them shine, but they spanned wider than I could see. Reaching my arm out, I touched the velvety feathers, and that surprised me because they looked like leather.

“Hold me,” he growled.

What was he?

I held onto my breath as we soared through the air, my hair whipping around my face. I pushed closer and held tighter around his neck again and my legs clasped his waist so tight he could probably hardly breathe.

“Are you okay?” he said, but there was a distinct sound of glee in his voice, and he knew he had taken me by surprise.

“Don’t drop me,” I yelled into his neck, over the roar of the speed. And I wondered if this was the last thing I would ever do and there was also a moment of clarity when I wondered what the hell I was thinking agreeing to go on a flight with the dark king.

“I will never drop you, Lace. Have you not realised that yet?” he said. His voice was sultry, and I wanted to lean up to his cheek and kiss him, but didn’t dare move from where I clung tight. So I kissed his neck instead and felt the tic of his jaw as he tensed underneath my lips.

“Sorry,” I said. Not wanting to stop flying and definitely not wanting him to fall.

“It’s good, unexpected, but good.”

I smiled and inhaled the masculine scent of his skin. My nostrils flared as his fragrance trickled in and I spent the rest of the flight nestled into the taught body of my antagonist. The man who used to be the object of my hatred. But now—

What was happening?

Landing on the floor with a small run to slow him down, I wrapped my arms stronger around his neck, feeling each bump as his legs ran over the land.

Finally, he stopped and walked with long strides. He enveloped my body with his enormous arms, holding me close.

“I can walk now,” I said, loosening my legs from around his waist.

“Stay there,” he barked. “You can’t see.”

“Can I take it off now? Can I see you?"

Chapter 14

Lacey

“No,”hebarked.Hisvoice was low and demanding, and as much as I wanted to pull the blindfold from my face. I had to trust him, and he had to trust me. “If you see me now, I will take you now.”

Oh… I nodded. “I promise I won’t.”

A door creaked, and I knew we were now inside a building of some sort. Though it could have been a shed or a hotel, I didn’t know which.

“You can put your legs down now. Be careful,” he said.

“Where are we?” I asked.

“Somewhere safe. I’m going to leave you here and contact your knights to collect you.”

“You’re leaving me.” That astounded me. He wanted me, but he was handing me back.

“Did you think I’d kidnap you too?”

“Perfect opportunity,” I said with a light laugh. I didn’t want to give him ideas and hoped I hadn’t planted that seed of curiosity in his mind.

“I don’t need to,” he said, and I yelped when he picked me up in his arms, my body over one arm and my legs over the over as he cradled me. His heavy footsteps walked across a wooden floor before he lowered me onto a softness.
