Shrugging my shoulders. “I’m tired and grumpy. I don’t know what you mean,” I lied.

Seb glared at me, and I stared back. “You’re pissing me off, Lacey.”

“Funny that. It’s a shame you’re feeling like that because my day has been peachy. I just loved being tied up on a bed with the king of the vampire rubbing his erection into my stomach and running his fangs down my neck, telling me he wanted to bind to me, which would make me a fucking vampire, his vampire, and you’re pissed off because I’m not telling you more about the dark king,” I hissed. “I’ll tell you something about him. He was the only one who came to rescue me.”

“Lacey...” Blake growled and my eyes whipped to his. “That’s not fair.”

“Nothing is fair.” I sighed and moved behind Blake, so I couldn’t see either of them. I placed my head against the door and looked up at the sky. The same sky I’d been soaring through only hours ago.

“Blessed,” I whispered and laughed a little to myself.

“Sorry?” Blake said.

I swallowed because I thought I was super quiet, but I shook my head, not wanting to talk about it. Blake gazed through his rear-view mirror at me, waiting for my reply.

I shrugged my shoulders and sighed. “My mother used to say the gods blessed me,” I said, but there was a definite sarcastic undercurrent in my tone. I rolled my eyes for added emphasis. “Cursed was what I think she meant to say.”

Blake gave me a sorrowful smile.

Chapter 16

Blake

Iglancedatherthroughout the journey from the car side mirror, but she never looked once at me or Seb. She daydreamed the rest of the journey home. Her eyes flicking to the sky and to the road and I could see she had a lot on her mind.

An hour later, I pulled into the road Lacey and Seb lived. A suburban street full of detached houses with a little land around. Some houses mirrored others, a great place for her to hide away. I stopped at the house Lacey and Seb lived, putting the gearbox into neutral and pulling the handbrake when the car came to a stop.

“Thanks for collecting me, Blake,” Lacey said with a small smile. She opened the door and got out, her feet almost ran to the front door.

Ryan rushed open the door as though he had been waiting for her to turn up. He dragged her into his arms, and she fell into his embrace and sobbed, her back shaking as he wrapped her in him.

“Now I feel like a shit,” Seb said, looking at the scene. He sighed heavily. “She needed a cuddle, not me going off on her, and now she’ll go off with Ryan for the night.”

“Are you jealous of Ryan?” I asked, watching Lacey with Ryan myself.

“Yeah, her and him went through a rough patch, but now they’re really close again. They don’t have a lot of sex of anything like that.”

“More emotional...” I stated.

“Yes, and that is hard for me,” Seb said. “She still hasn’t remembered exactly who I am.”

“And because it’s what you want?”

“Isn’t it what we all want?” Seb laughed. “I want it all and I would have preferred it was me and her. I’m just greedy, but not just that.” He paused for a breath. “She finished the relationship we all had with her because of Ryan, because she thought he was seeing his ex.”

“I saw something between them in the library. Ryan and Lacey I mean.”

Seb twisted. “What happened?”

“They argued because Jack said something about her being in a committed relationship with Kane, and Ryan did not like it one bit.”

“That’s because she isn’t in a committed relationship with Kane any more than her other knights. As much as Kane thinks that she is more his.”

“Same as before? And does she?”

“It’s a bit of a tricky one. She lost her virginity to him in this life.”

“She was a virgin,” I huffed. No fucking wonder I got nowhere with her. “That’s a different outcome to her other lives.”
