She smiled, but there was a flash behind her eyes and I missed what it was, but there was definitely something there.

“I think it was to help me when I bind with someone. It would be horrible to hate someone and bind with him. For both of us. Or maybe it was to stop the dark king putting a spell to not have it. Who knows?”

“You know only you can create the bind, though?” I said it again because I wasn’t sure she listened earlier.

“Yeah, but if I get carried away and let it happen...”

“Lacey,” I said, staring into her eyes. “Do you love me?”

Her eyes flickered with gold. “Yes.”

I plunged my lips onto hers. “Then can I take the risk?” I said, moving in and out of her again.

“You are about to destroy all the willpower I have left.” She put my face in her hands and stared at me. “You don’t know how much I want it, what you’re doing. Just feeling you inside me is something I want to happen over and over. But binding, not now, not yet. Only once I have a safe place, I don’t want you to die on me if the dark king knows.”

“So you will?”

“I have to eventually.”

I stilled in her for a second before I pulled out, and she sighed at the loss. “Have to.”

She nodded. “It will be the only way to stop him.”

My eyebrows crunched together as I frowned at her. “Stop him and there was me worried you were falling for him after what happened with you and him, him saving you, I mean. I thought...”

She gave her head a soft shake. “I know, Seb’s right. I don’t know what got into me. Maybe it was the bond we have, or maybe relief from being saved.” She sighed. “But I’ve done something that will change how he thinks. He probably won’t save me anymore...” She paused for a heartbeat. “He is more likely to kill me.”

“Go on,” I said, and I waited with bated breath.

“But I had to because Clay said I will go to him when I’m twenty-one. But I think Clay thinks I’ll die before I’m twenty-one.”

I shook my head. “Die?”

She nodded and her eyes told the sorry she felt at that.

I kissed her lips. “Not if I can stop it. So what have you done?”

“I’m sorry I can’t tell you. I already said too much. Unless I'm at my house, I can't discuss it."

“In case he hears?” I asked.

“Yes, don’t ask me anything else. Seb and Ryan were in the dark for a long time, so it isn’t you.”

“Was Kane in the dark?”

She swallowed. “Yes,” she lied. I could tell as her eyes glowed, but she didn’t even realise.

“You’re just keeping it from me,” I huffed. “I’m prepared to bind with you and risk my life, and you can’t tell me. You know you love me.”

“Blake,” she whispered. “I love you, but I’m scared he’ll hear.”

I crashed my lips onto hers, finally hearing the words I wanted to hear. She smiled as she pulled away.

“Write it down,” I said into her ear.

“Come to my house at the weekend.”

“I can’t I’m too busy,” I said. “Please tell me I promise I’ll not tell a soul.”
