They laughed.

“We thought you’d try that,” Danil said. “I've glamoured us to prevent you from stopping us.”

“Looks like I have to fight you then,” I said, and smiled.

Danil nodded his head to the men who stood only five feet to either side of me.

Both men lunged at me at the same time. I jumped high in the air and kicked my legs out at the same forty-five degree angles. I twisted my pointed feet and pushed the soles of my feet into two faces that were nearing me.

Both men groaned as they fell back, holding their noses.

I cartwheeled over the head of the man crouched to my right. He grabbed my hand as I did and pulled it.

I crashed landed on the floor.

“Just not quick enough, Miss Summer,” Danil said. He stood over me as I sprawled on the floor and grinned the widest smile as his fangs elongated. And those teeth were all it took. I wasn’t staying on the floor for long. I forced my leg in the air and kicked using all enhanced strength and landed the perfect shot in his junk.

“Fuck,” he screeched, grasping two hands over his manhood. “Fucking bitch.”

I back flipped away from him and watched dumbfounded as one man collapsed without me touching him. The last guard ran to me but held his face as he landed on the floor.

A laughter emitted through the air, and I twisted to the sound.

It was Ryan’s laugh.

The man I broke the nose of rose from the floor, his lips curled in anger, and he grunted. He glanced at me and then to where Ryan’s sound came from.

“Ryan...” I went to say. But I didn’t need to. The man held his face and crashed to the floor.

“Lace...”

I turned, but not quick enough as a hand curled around my throat from behind and walked me backwards. I choked as his warm breath tickled against my cheek.

“I’ve already fed, Miss Summer, but I’m always ravenous, and I know I can’t harm you,” Danil said and stopped, running his fangs along the side of my neck. “But I also know it terrifies you. Not sure why, most people love it.”

“I’m not sure what women see in you,” I hissed with false bravado, but I also knew he wouldn’t do it. He was here for Maxim, and Maxim would never allow that.

“Oh, it’s not just women, Miss Summer. Plenty of men are happy to come to me. They all want to be fucked and sucked into oblivion,” he said into my ear.

I twisted my body to get myself from his grasp.

“One more movement and I will pierce your skin,” he said. My heartbeat pounded inside my rib cage. I knew I should twist away from him or sweep my foot behind his knee.

Would he be quicker than me?

I’d never fought a vampire in combat. In fact, I’d only fought people from the magical kingdom, at least until the first demon arrived. But vampires were quick, although not as quick as the fae, and neither had the type of magic I possessed.

I knew that, but I couldn’t take the risk and stuck to the spot. First, I needed him to move his teeth away from my neck. I didn’t want a fang in my flesh because I made a wrong move.

The head behind me cracked, and I glanced over my shoulder to see his face grimace as it twisted sideward. But he didn’t leave go of my neck as he spun me with him, using me as a shield as he tried to predict where Ryan would pounce next.

There was a tap on my shoulder, and I glanced at where it was. Blake smiled.

Danil twirled me again and stood with his back against the wall and me directly in front of him. “Move back,” Danil said as we faced Blake.

Blake stared into the eyes of the man behind me. His blue eyes were now obsidian, and he looked totally different, possessed with hatred. His face seethed, his lip curled and my eyes widened watching him.

Danil’s arms loosened. I grasped at my throat as I dropped from his grasp. Blake continued putting the man into a trance and I pushed myself away from him. But two of the other vampires rose to their feet. I expected Ryan to knock them out again, as he still hid behind his invisible lair.
