Seb sighed. “Yes, we need to work out Maxim Volkov’s next move because that dirty vampire will do anything he can to get you. Including breaking into your home,” Seb said, subtlety changing the subject which I knew he wanted to change.

Foreboding iced my skin as I peered through my fingers at Seb. I didn’t know who I could trust. They talked about the vampire king, but what if I was staring at the man who was the real villain? And if Seb was the dark king, was he going to love me as he said, claim me, or was it a ruse to kill me?

“You said you’d do anything to get me,” I said, moving the conversation back to the dark king. But Seb didn’t understand, and he shook his head. “Why don’t you admit it? You are Deven, aren’t you?”

“That’s his name?” Seb asked. I knew by the rise of his voice it was a question and not confirmation.

I nodded. “It’s your name.”

“I am not the fucking dark king. How can I prove it to you?” Seb yelled.

“Turn, I need to see you again,” I yelled back.

“No,” Blake said. “We’ve got work to do, and Ryan will be back soon.”

I twisted back to Seb. “If you love me, shift into your angel form.”

He sighed.

“Please,” I begged. He nodded lightly, and I watched, in awe, as Seb’s body grew the same way the monster in my dreams did.

His torso widened, his body seemed another foot taller. I strolled around to the other side of the island and watched as two wings sprouted from either side of his spine, and they folded into themselves, the ends curled around his shoulders.

As I looked at those wings, I knew they’d reach the ceiling or possibly further if he was to go into full flight mode.

I swallowed.

Why did I ask him to do this?

I stood in front of him. My eyes felt as if they would burst with pressure, but I couldn’t stop looking. I couldn’t blink. His deep brown eyes were full of worry as they scratched over my skin, over my face.

Waiting.

I glanced at the door, and Blake was waiting there. Probably ensuring Ryan wouldn’t walk in on what was happening.

“So Kane and Blake are the same as you,” I said.

Seb shook his head lightly. “Their wings are silvery white.”

“Were yours once?”

He nodded.

I walked up to him, tiptoed and held my hands to his face. Closing my eyes, I ran my fingers over his cheeks, around his eye socket and over the contours of his face.

Pulling him closer to me, closer to my lips. A raw, savage desire for him overtook me and my mouth slammed against his.

He picked me up, and I wrapped my legs around his waist, and we continued with a frenzied kiss that burned my blood, because I suddenly remembered.

He was my guardian.

My eternal lover.

My friend.

My fated mate.

I embraced him tightly around his shoulders. Tears dropped as I rubbed my face into the crook of his neck. “I remember,” I whispered, hoping Blake didn’t hear. “It was always you.”
