“We have to stick together on this. She is vulnerable right now and it wouldn’t be wise to bind with her,” I said. “Her emotions have to be right for the bind to be successful.”

I was making it up as I went along, but I needed to stop Jack from doing what he’d been desperate to do. Which now I found strange because he was thinking of a relationship with Zena.

I didn’t want her being touched by Jack, didn’t want her binding to him.

She was mine.

I also didn’t want Lacey to bring Ryan back.

Jack strolled to the window and looked at the road below. A deep sigh left his mouth, a turmoil inside his mind as he fought with the need to bind, the need to claim Lacey as his own. “I won’t. I’m not going against Clayton,” he said.

That surprised me because Clay was no longer the leader. Not that was a problem of mine. Let him think whatever he needed to.

The knock on the door made us both turn. I held my hand up to Jack and turned to let her in.

“That was quick,” Jack said. “I never expected her for some time.”

“Stay strong, for her sake,” I said, walking to the door. I opened it and held my arms out.

The instant she stepped inside, her eyes and lips sagged, seeing me and falling into my arms as her sobs became loud, her body shaking uncontrollably.

“Jack,” she whispered, her eyes automatically begging as he came into view. “I need your help.”

“I can’t Lacey, I know what you’re going to ask,” Jack said.

Her eyes pleaded again. “I’m not asking you to bind with me, but use your magic and bring him back.”

Jack shook his head and stared at her. His hazy gaze looked like he was about to give in. I cleared my throat and Jack seemed back in control.

“Please, it needs to be quick before too much time passes.” Her eyes widened as Jack shook his head at her. “Just do it and I’ll bind to you rather than Ryan when we are at that time again.”

“He can’t,” I yelled. “Stop pressuring him. Clay won't allow it.”

“Clay isn’t in charge. I am,” Lacey hissed.

Jack licked his bottom lip as he considered that. I shook my head in warning, but he looked away from me to Lacey. “Bind to me now and you can turn time back,” he said. My blood was raging around my veins.

“That’s stupid,” she argued. “Just do it. I’ll give you my word.”

“Now,” he argued back.

She raised her eyes. “And if I do it now and then turn time back, we won’t be bound.”

Lacey’s mobile pinged, but she ignored it as she argued with Jack. She turned to me, her eyes silently asking the question. I could only raise a shoulder. “I don’t have that type of magic.”

Her head dipped low as she released a ragged sob. “Please.”

“Just bind with him. If the dark king kills him, it’s his own fault. If you hate him forever, again that’s his own fault,” I bit out. “Maybe the dark king killed Ryan.”

Lacey shook her head at that. “Bring him back and I’ll bind to both of you.”

Lacey mobile chimed again.

I took the mobile from her hand and put the call on loud speaker.

“Hi, it’s Blake,” I said.

“Clay here.” He paused for a moment.
