The laugh exploded from his mouth and knocked him back in the sofa. Kelsey was so sweet that when she got the least bit sassy, it packed a wallop.

She snuggled up close. Dex wrapped her up as tight as he could and kissed the top of her head. He was happy. Even now.

“Hey, Dex?”

“Hmm?”

“I think maybe I just talked myself into keeping this baby.”

“Yeah?” Though the thought wasn’t exactly soothing, it didn’t scare him like it had only five minutes earlier.

“Yeah. I don’t think our baby will be miserable. Even if it has issues like you’re worried about, it has good parents. We’ll get help. We’llbehelp. We’ll make sure our kid is happy.”

Resting his cheek on Kelsey’s head, Dex thought about his own life. How would he have been different if his life had been more normal? If he’d just had one steady thing to hold onto? A safe place to shelter when life stormed?

He knew the answer, because he had that now. And their child would have the same.

There was only one thing left, then. “Let’s get married.”

She tucked in closer and squeezed her arms around him. “Yes, please.”
