Now it was time to share a small, sweet fruit and both smiled as they took their piece of a fig and remembered their night in the desert.

Oh, there was so much love to come.

Then he placed in her palm her ruby.

It had been cut and polished to perfection, and when she thought of him diving deep into the cave pool to retrieve it, and how much love he had for her, tears came.

Happy ones, though.

And no one minded a bit.

The only blip in proceedings was the extremely late arrival of Hazin.

They had come through the grand entrance, and were climbing the stairs to go out to the balcony when he arrived.

Wearing a suit, no less.

And looking very dishevelled.

Certainly he was in no state to go out onto the balcony.

‘Uh-oh!’ Flo said.

‘That’s Hazin,’ Maggie explained, and then saw her friend’s lips tighten. ‘You’ve already met?’ She frowned.

‘At Dion’s.’

Flo had told her he’d left by the time she’d got there!

But there was no time for chatter; the people were waiting and Hazin was swaying as if he might soon pass out.

‘Go and sleep it off,’ Ilyas told his brother sternly. ‘I will speak with you later.’

Ilyas dealt with it and then he turned and gave a small eye-roll to his bride, who laughed.

It was a smiling Crown Prince Ilyas who stepped out onto the balcony. He looked out and smiled at the waiting people.

Even the king and queen managed a wave and the people cheered even louder.

Then Ilyas turned to his wife and to the utter delight of the people he gave his bride a kiss on the cheek.

‘Happy?’ he asked.

‘So happy.’ Maggie smiled, for she was with the man she loved and finally had her family.

Love had, at long last, returned to the palace.
