“About business. I hear you’ve been working with my nephew on a few business ventures.”

Muñoz nodded. “I have and for a while your nephew has been extremely useful. I have found the partnership… profitable.”

“But…” Santos added when he heard a change in Muñoz’s voice, a slight hesitation when he said the word profitable.

“Lately, he has been flaking off on his responsibilities. I do not work that way, not sure if you do or tolerate that kind of work ethic.”

“I do not.” Santos answered quickly.

Muñoz broke his connection with his wife and turned to face Santos.

“I did not think so. I also do not think you have a clue what he has been bargaining in your name.”

Santos, frowning, said, “The motherfucker isn’t bargaining anything under my name.”

Muñoz chuckled. “Oh, my friend, but he is. And I think you are not going to like what I am about to say.”

Muñoz told him about the territory in Mexico he had given him, claiming it belonged to his father, therefore it belonged to him. He had promised a meth connection from Southeast Asia as well. It was the very one Santos had been trying to get for months. Miguel had promised the connection to his uncle. To hear he was offering it to his rival, caused his blood pressure to skyrocket.

Muñoz, knowing this was new to Santos, kept his smile under wraps. Oh, but he wanted to gloat. He wanted to prove to Santos that he wasn’t as powerful as he thought. He also wanted to tell Santos about the gun deal Miguel had made with the Russians to supply them with the weapons his uncle had planned to sell to his Yakuza connection.

Miguel was trying to take out his uncle, to get him killed and take over his territory. And Muñoz believed Santos wasn’t the wiser.

“It looks like your nephew has been playing you,” Muñoz shrugged. “It happens.”

Santos didn’t reply. He stilled his features as his shoulders dropped in resolve. He put a pitying look on his face and said to Muñoz, “It looks like my nephew has been playing more than me. He’s been playing you too.”

Muñoz raised an eyebrow.

“Is that so?”

“I’m afraid so. Let me ask you a question, when’s the last time you’ve spoken to your daughter Ansley?”

Muñoz’s jovial expression completely died. His eyes darkened to a shade that mirrored the fury burning in him too.

Santos took a deep breath and broke the news to him, telling him everything he had learned about what happened to Ansley Muñoz and who was responsible.

Needless to say, Carlito Muñoz was not happy.

Byron disconnected the call from Green and sighed.

He looked over at Case who was sitting in the driver seat of his truck.

“Green said they are processing him out now. He should be coming out soon.” Byron announced looking at the front door of the red building waiting for Miguel to emerge.

“I hope he brings his ass before his uncle or Muñoz shows up. This fuck head has fucked everything up. And you’re still planning to use him?”

Byron nodded but didn’t move his eyes from the door.

“I sure am. He has the bodies we need to put my plan into motion.”

“You do know this plan of yours has a horrible success rate.”

That caused him to break the connection he held and face his friend. “That’s because you refused to join the team.” Byron brought up.

Case grunted. “I’m not working with these jokers. They’re beneath me. If you say this job is simple, then you don’t need me. Besides, Crunch is quite capable of grabbing her, as long as those jokers do their jobs.”

Byron snorted and returned his eyes to the door. It finally opened and Miguel stepped out looking worse for wear and haggard. He looked around the parking lot and recognized Byron’s SUV. He hustled over, looking around the area before making it to the back door. He flung it open and jumped inside.
