“Yes,” she says. “I am.”

“Are you usually afraid to try new things?” I ask.

“Umm, I guess so,” she says.

“Why?” I ask.

Her brow furrows and I can tell she’s not sure why I’m asking the question. She answers, “Well, what if I don’t like the result?”

“What if you do?” I ask.

“But what if I don’t?”

“Then you learn you don’t like whatever it is you tried, and you don’t do it again. Now, what if you do like it?”

“I get to try something fun?” she guesses.

“And fulfilling. And maybe even helpful. You never know unless you try.”

“So you’re saying I should try things even when I’m afraid something bad will happen?”

“Yes,” I say, “If the good you might receive is worth the risk. So let me ask you, what if you try to dance professionally?”

“Professionally?” she asks. “I haven’t danced for real in years!”

“I’m not interested in what you haven’t done, little girl,” I say. “I’m interested in what you’re going to do. So answer me, what if you try to audition for a professional troupe?”

“Well, they’ll see that I haven’t danced formally since school years ago and they’ll probably reject me.”

“That’s one possibility,” I agree. “What if they don’t reject you?”

She blinks. “Then I get to dance.”

Her eyes widen and she repeats almost reverently. “I get to dance.”

“That’s right,” I say. “Now, what happens if you never ask for an audition?”

“I never dance,” she says.

“Exactly,” I say. “So, should you try for an audition or not?”

She hesitates, then says, “I’m afraid.”

“That’s not what I asked, little girl,” I say sternly. “I asked you if you should try to audition or not.”

She doesn’t answer for a long time. Finally, she says, “I should try.”

“Yes,” I agree. “You should. So that’s your first goal. You need to try to audition for a troupe.”

She takes a deep breath, then says, “Okay.”

We spend the rest of dinner making some more specific goals. She helps me understand the steps necessary for her to prepare for an audition and begin reaching out to dance troupes and we create a plan for her. When dinner is over, she throws her arms around me and says, “Thank you, Daddy.”

I hold her tightly and say, “You’re welcome, little girl.”

We head home and even though we agreed to wait before we have sex again, we break that rule and she drifts to sleep with her legs wrapped around me, my cock still twitching inside her.
