She stared down at it for a couple moments, her eyes lighting back up, and she grasped the drawing. Our fingers grazed against each other’s, and I hoped that she didn’t notice the way I tensed when they did.

“Thank you,” she whispered, not moving away from me.

My heart raced faster and faster, my breath hitching. I swallowed hard.

Neither of us stepped back. Neither of us looked away. We fucking stood there.

And I couldn’t stop myself from taking her face in my hands and kissing her passionately on the mouth. I couldn’t stop myself from drawing her closer to me and wondering if she fucking cared about me as much as I cared about her.

“Blaise,” she whispered breathlessly between kisses, curling her fingers against my shoulders.

I had just fucked her against the whiteboard, but I wanted her again. I wanted her differently this time.

“God …”

Suddenly, the doorknob jiggled. Vera breathily pulled away, her eyes wide and her cheeks flaming red.

When the door swung open, Mr. Avery walked into the room with a grocery bag that smelled like cooked food and arched a brow at me. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

Vera scooted behind me and stared at Callan in fear.

“Just leaving,” I said, though I had wanted to fucking stay here with her all day.

After nudging Vera toward the door, I followed after her and passed him. Callan Avery let Vera shuffle down the hallway toward the library, but he caught me by my shoulder and yanked me back.

“We need to have a fucking talk.”

ChapterThirty-One

BLAISE

“What do you want?” I asked, tossing my backpack over my shoulder and grabbing my skateboard. Instead of waiting for Callan Avery to scold me, I walked to the door. “I don’t have time. I gotta get to class.”

Avery seized my shoulder again. “Tell me you didn’t fuck that girl in my class.”

I stopped walking and rolled my eyes. “Come on, Avery. It’s not like you haven’t fucked anyone in here before. I know Aunt Georgina isn’t sucking your dick. She’s out with her girlfriends every night, isn’t she?”

While it was meant to be a harmless joke, Callan shoved me away. “You could’ve used any other fucking classroom, Blaise. Don’t use mine next time, or I’ll write you up and get you suspended.”

My eyes widened. Not at his empty threat, but by how defensive he had gotten.

“No shit. You have fucked someone in here, haven’t you?” I ambled around the room and shook my head, chuckling. “But who could it be? Definitely not any of the cheerleaders. I mean, not that you couldn’t score them, but they’re not really your type, just like Georgina isn’t.”

He gritted his teeth. “Get out of my fucking classroom.”

“But I thought you wanted to talk.” Another chuckle left my lips. “It’s not Nicole or Jasmine or Aiza. Couldn’t be Juana. She’s probably your type, but way too loud. And her voice”—I scrunched my nose—“too fucking annoying.”

“Out. Now.”

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. Callan tensed and glanced over, his jaw clenched. A moment later, Sakura Sato—one of the girls in the running to be valedictorian of the senior class—peeked into the classroom.

“Callan—” she started, but then she spotted me in the back of the classroom. Her cheeks flushed red, and she quickly looked away. “I-I mean, Mr. Avery, you said that you wanted me to meet with you during lunch about an assignment.”

After eyeing Callan, I curled my lips into a smirk and sauntered to the door. “Would’ve never guessed, Avery. Is that why you were at the skatepark last night? Needed to take care of”—I glanced at Sakura, who quickly averted her gaze—“someone.”

Mr. Avery drew his tongue across his teeth. “Sakura, give us a minute.”

Sakura quickly scurried out of the classroom, keeping her head down the entire time.
