“Shh, it’s okay. You don’t need to apologize.”

“I guess I’ve sort of been holding it all in. Things kind of caught up with me.”

“It sounds like it. You want to tell me what that was all about? What happened to your sister?”

“They died. My dad, Phe, Rosie, Martin... Moriarty and the fucking Seer. It’s the Apocalypse. All of it.”

She let out a shocked gasp. Her hands, previously firm on me, trembled, showcasing just how deeply my words affected her. “They’re gone? All of them?”

“Yeah. All within a few days of each other.”

“Fuck... I... How is this just coming up now? Wait, don’t answer that. I know.” She shifted behind me, then got off the bed. “Okay. Shit. I... I need to get dressed, and then we should talk about this with everyone.”

Still shaky, I got to my feet while Sunday pulled on a pair of leggings and one of Caleb’s sweaters. I still felt a bit like the rug had been pulled out from under me, but at least I could draw a full breath. I hadn’t realized how much all of it was still weighing on me. I hadn’t really given myself time to think about it at all. It would take a lot more work for me to move past my dad and sister dying and what it meant for me and the rest of us. The closure I needed wasn’t within reach. Not yet. But once this was over, I’d mourn them properly.

Linking our fingers, Sunday squeezed my hand. “It’s going to be okay. I’ve got you.”

We walked out into the living room, where Alek sat on the couch with one arm draped over his eyes. Sunday glanced around, clearly seeking out the others when the door opened, and both Thorne and Caleb walked in.

“Perfect timing. We’re having a family meeting,” Sunday said, still holding on to me.

I was pretty sure her strength was the only thing keeping me upright at the moment.

“Family meeting? What the hell happened, dove? We were only gone for twenty minutes at most.”

“It was long enough. Did you know she’s having contractions?” I snapped, gaze focused on Caleb.

“One contraction,” she corrected. “Just a baby one.”

“One is too fucking many when you’re off in the middle of bumfuck nowhere stranded on an island without a hospital or doctor in sight. You saw it yourself when we walked through that ghost town of a village, Thorne. Warg Island has been deserted for a long fucking time. No people. No one to help. Not to mention no fucking food.” Remembering what had set me off to begin with, I spun around to point a finger at the priest. “SomeDaddyyou are, Caleb. What the hell kind of protector are you? She’s going to starve, or bleed out, or... or...” That panic began rising in me again, but I pushed it down.

“I’m totally fine, King...” Her protest trailed off into a soft grunt as she stiffened next to me. The stubborn woman was trying to hide it, but I could see the discomfort on her face.

“See? See? There she goes again. We need to get her off this island. Thorne, call your dad and get the jet. We’re not sticking around for the baby to pop out. We are not prepared to handle this on our own.”

“Pull yourself together, wolf. Do you really think I haven’t planned for this? A boat with supplies will arrive in the morning, along with the midwife I procured for Sunday before we ever set foot on this island. There was a delay because of the godforsaken storm. You know I would never do anything to put her at risk.”

I raised my brow but didn’t list out the sheer number of things he’d done to prove that very statement wrong.

“I still want the jet.”

“Me as well. I don’t like the possibility of our being cut off if something goes wrong.” Thorne reached into his pocket but came up empty. Realizing he must have dropped his phone, he searched the floor, jolting the couch and waking Alek, who sat up with a confused grunt.

“Like the end of the world?” Caleb offered dryly.

“Not funny,” Sunday said.

He shrugged. “Aye, but it’s the truth. We stay here. We will have everything we need.”

“Sunshine deserves more than some midwife you pulled off the street. Doc can take care of her. He’s delivered more shifter babies than I can count. I vote we go.”

“As do I.”

“I’m telling you. It’s safer for us here.”

Alek stood, his face lined with fatigue. “You’re outnumbered, Priest. I’m the size of two men. I count as two. That’s four votes to your one to take Sunday back.”

Caleb looked to Sunday. “What do you want?”
