ChapterThree

ALEK

“So you will kill the baby, and I...” Noah’s acceptance of this plan sent protective fury burning through me.

I had to close my eyes against the rise of my berserker. But then Cashel spoke, and I lost my thread of control.

“Will attempt to turn your mate.”

No one spoke as the words hung heavy between us. It was a battle for me to speak through the blind rage pumping through my veins.

“Absolutely not,” I growled, my voice filled with quiet thunder.

“But if it’s the only way,” Noah started.

I leveled him with my stare. “You have no idea what it will do to her mixed blood. Your solution could be a death sentence. It is not your choice to make.”

“If it means her dying anyway, I will try whatever I can to save her. You are a fool if you think I would just sit by and let her leave me...” His voice broke. “Leaveus.”

Knowing I only had one other ally in the room, I turned to Kingston. “You’ve been awfully quiet.”

“I’m still trying to wade through the bullshit these two have been spewing for the last twenty minutes.”

“Some protective Alpha you turned out to be.” I clenched my fists and paced in front of the fireplace. “You can’t be considering any of this. That’sourchild. Not some demon spawn from hell. And even if sheisa monster, she’s still ours.”

Kingston’s torn expression filled me with dread. “I don’t know what to do. You heard Glinda. She’s going to die, Alek.”

The thread of panic in his voice helped me regain some of the control I’d lost. “It will kill her to lose the baby. You know that, right? If she survives, she’ll never forgive you if you allow these two leeches to murder your child. The one you’ve been fighting to protect since the second you found out it existed.” I took a heavy breath before continuing. “Are you going to risk that? Your child as well as the love of your mate?”

A shudder worked its way through his large frame, his wolf shining in his eyes when they met mine. “No. Never.”

“Then this conversation is over. I will not agree to any plan that involves the murder ofanychild, but especially not one that involves mine. Are you coming?” I demanded, looking at the shifter as I started for the door.

Kingston nodded, jaw tense, eyes hard.

Even though he was part of the reason my berserker was rattling its chains, I couldn’t leave without giving Noah a chance to change his mind. I owed it to him—and Sunday.

“And you?”

Noah swallowed, looking between his father and us. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. But the words were not aimed at us.

Cashel’s eyes flashed. “This is the only way to save her.”

“We will find another way.” Noah turned and walked to where Kingston and I were waiting at the door.

His father’s panicked voice rang out. “If you leave this room, that’s it. It’s over. We will all die. The world will burn, and there will be nothing we can do to prevent it.”

Noah’s face drained of color, but he stood strong, not turning around as he strode through the door. “Then it burns.”

I followed, Kingston not far behind, and the three of us went in search of our mate. We had to get her away from this place, hide her, protect her, and figure out how to save... everything.

It took mere moments to get to her room, yet every passing second felt like ages. The danger sat heavy, like a leaden blanket meant to suffocate me. The relief I hoped to feel vanished at the sight of Moira standing guard at the door.

“Stand aside, witch,” I ordered, but the little spitfire crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head.

“No. She doesn’t want to see you.” She glanced behind me, looking at the others. “Any of you.”

“Listen, Belladonna, I’m not here to play nice. My mate is in there, and she’s upset... in danger. I need to get to her, and you won’t stop me.” Kingston’s voice was a low, threatening growl.
