“Fuck,” Jay said, setting down his fork. “You’re right. Dumbass move.”

I nodded. “We’re going to be lucky if Dream doesn’t keep her distance from all three of us now.”

Evan shrugged. “Or she just might want some time to process what happened.”

“Could be either. But what we’re going to do is simple. We give Dream her space, let her figure it out, then come to us if she wants to go further. And we need to be ready for any answer she gives us. We had all talk about not coming on too hard, letting her come to us if she’s interested. Then the first night we see her after all this time you two pounce on her like a couple of horny middle-schoolers at their first make out session.”

I sighed and shook my head. I was still frustrated, but my brothers weren’t stupid – they’d gotten the point by then.

After I finished speaking, that same worried expression formed on Jay’s face yet again.

“Oh God,” I said. “Don’t tell me there’s more.”

“There is,” Jay said. “But it’s not about what we did. It’s what she told me about Adam.”

“About Adam? They broke up – what more is there to say?”

Jay took a deep breath and spoke. He told me what he’d heard from Dream last night, how she’d told him about how Adam had treated her, how he’d threatened her by punching the wall.

By the time he was done, I was furious.

I wanted to kill Adam. It was a damn good thing I had my brothers to hold me back.
