DREAM

The guys and I finished up lunch, and since there was plenty to go around, Clarissa joined us.

Unfortunately, the rest of the meal wasn’t nearly as fun and lighthearted as the start. The news about Adam had hit me like a cold spike to the stomach. When we finished up and put everything away, the guys regarded me with the same expression of concern.

“You want us to stay?” Duncan asked. “Because we will.”

“No reason you can’t enjoy the rest of the market and not have to worry about you-know-who,” Jay added.

“Yeah,” Evan put in. “We’re here for you.”

I took in the sight of the Wolf brothers standing in front of me all puffy-chested.

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“What’s so funny?” Duncan asked, seeming a bit concerned.

“Nothing,” I said. “Just that this is how you guys were back in high school, always ready to do whatever it took to make sure I never had to worry about anything. The more things change, you know?”

The guys smiled.

“We’re always going to look out for you, Dream,” Duncan said. We’re always going to take care of you and make sure you’re alright.”

At those words, Jay and I shared a quick glance, one that spoke volumes. I had to wonder if he’d told the guys about what had happened, what we’d done the night before. Because he’d “taken care of me,” alright. But most likely not in the way Duncan had meant.

“Thanks, guys. And don’t worry – I’ll keep you all in the loop. I like to handle my own affairs, but I’m smart enough to know when three Navy SEALS might come in handy.”

“Hey,” Duncan said with a wink. “Two SEALS and a Green Beret.”

I laughed, always having found the military rivalries between the guys endearing.

“What about your gear?” Jay asked. “Want us to come back and help you pack up?”

“You kidding?” Clarissa piped up as she wrapped her arm around my shoulder and pulled me close. “Look at these guns.” She flexed to prove her point. “They can handle all the gear you can throw at them.”

Evan gave Clarissa a skeptical look, then reached forward and wrapped his finger and thumb around the thickest part of her bicep, touching one tip to the other.

“Guns, huh?” he asked with a grin.

“That doesn't count! You guys don’t have normal sized hands. They’re like…huge bunches of bananas.”

The guys laughed.

“Seriously,” I said. “I think we can handle it. Just a few boxes. And Jay, I’ll make sure to get the tent back to you after this weekend.”

He waved the idea away. “Keep it for as long as you need.”

We said our goodbyes to the boys, and they were off. Despite everything that was going on, I couldn’t help but let my eyes dance from one perfect ass to the other. I’d seen Jay’s glorious body on full display, and part of me wanted nothing more than to see the others.

“Not a bad team to have on your side,” Clarissa commented as she watched the guys head out. “Useful, and nice to look at.”

I laughed, giving her a slight shove. “Alright, alright, none of that now.”

“You’re no fun,” she said with a wag of her finger. “Now, you ready to get back to work? I’ll stick around and play assistant if you don’t mind. Got the evening off from Blueprint.”

“Perfect.” I was more than happy for the company.

Together, we reopened the stand. It didn’t take long at all before customers started streaming in again. Among them were more than a few boys asking where the soldiers had all gone off to. The Wolf brothers had been a hit, and part of me wondered, with a smile on my face, if I ought to bring them back to the stand some other market day to shore up business.
